Abstrak - Orthogonal Defect Classification (ODC) memungkinkan kita untuk melakukan "10x" pada Root Cause Analysis (RCA). 10x dalam hal waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan root cause analysis dan 10x dalam hal pencakupan defect stream. Peningkatan produktivitas ini dicapai dengan menaikkan tingkat abstraksi dan sistematisasi metodologi analisis. Dampak dari peningkatan produktivitas ini besar pengaruhnya dalam dampak usaha dengan laporan keuntungan yang besar sekali.
Introduction
Root cause analysis adalah pokok dari metode peningkatan produktivitas dalam rekayasa perangkat lunak. Keberhasilannya legendaris tapi tingkat implementasi masih dangkal. Kesulitan dalam pelaksanaan terkait dengan biaya, cakupan, dan skill yang diperlukan untuk menjalankan root cause analysis yang efektif,. Hal ini menempatkan suatu tekanan yang sangat besar pada manajer yang ingin menggunakan root cause analysis untuk memahami masalah dan mengambil tindakan, tetapi tidak dapat melakukannya dengan kecepatan dan kesederhanaan. Akibatnya, banyak kesempatan yang ada untuk peningkatan kualitas tidak tereksplorasi dan tereksploitasi.
Manfaat root cause analysis biasanya cukup jelas, tetapi menghasilkan beban kerja yang tidak jelas. Akibatnya, tidak mengejutkan melihat lembaga yang memulai misalnya sebuah pelatihan dengan penuh semangat hanya untuk melihat usaha yang berkurang seiring berjalannya waktu.
