Ocean Catfish
We have transferred two channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus growth hormone cDNA constructs (opAFP-ccGH and rtMT-ccGH) driven by the ocean pout Zoarces americanus antifreeze protein promoter (opAFP) or rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss metallothionein promoter (rtMT) via electroporation to channel catfish to produce transgenic catfish by introducing additional copies of growth hormone cDNA and compered the inheritance of the GH transgenesis, and growth rate.
Most of the DNA constructs are lost during the first 10 days after delivery into host embryos. Only about 0.0001% of the construct take permanent residence in the fish genome. Integration rates between 2% to 30% have been reported (Chen and Powers 1990; Hackett 1993; Karsi 2001; Chiou et

(2002) reported that the transgenic common carp Cyprinus carpio by rainbow trout cDNA in the four families of the F1 generation and eight families in the F2 generation grew 3% to 37% and 0% to 49% faster than their non-transgenic siblings, respectively. At one year old, the transgenic Atlantic salmon by Chinook salmon GH cDNA driven by the ocean pout antifreeze protein gene grew 2 to 6 fold larger than non-transgenic control and the largest transgenic fish grew 13 times that of the average non-transgenic (Du et al. 1992) and Oreochromis niloticus transgenic by Chinook salmon GH cDNA driven by the ocean pout antifreeze protein grew 2.5 to 4 fold faster than non-transgenic siblings (Rahman et al. 1998, 2001; Rahman and Maclean 1999; Caelers et al. …show more content…
GloFish, fluorescent zebrafish is the first transgenic fish to be commercially applied for ornamental purposes. FDA (2015) have been approved triploid Atlantic salmon GH transgenic for the first time for human consumption. This approval will open the gate to other transgenic GH meat produce for human

    Atlantic Killifish

Chemicals such as DDT and Agent Orange have contaminated rivers in New Jersey so bad that residents can’t even eat fish from the rivers. The fact that these fish are still alive proves that evolution is not a theory, but a reality. The Atlantic killifish can tolerate toxic waters and have adapted to these horrible conditions. These fish were able to form a dna strand of their own that let them survive. They reproduced and started a new species of killifish that can tolerate toxins in the water. These fish might be safe now but when and if the water ever gets clean the could all die because their bodies are used to the toxins and won’t be able to change back to the way they were before.…

The FDA's recent approval of transgenic (genetically engineered) salmon gave biotech firm, AquaBounty the go ahead to sell its genetically engineered Atlantic salmon. This decision set a precedent as the first genetically altered animal product approved for human food in the United States. Approval opens the door for other transgenic food products.…

In research by Cook et al., genetically modified salmon were shown to exhibit a 2.14 – 2.62 fold increase in overall body weight, as well as lower protein, energy and lipid levels. Additionally, Cook found that when genetically modified salmon were deprived of food for an extended period of time, they showed increased oxygen consumption, less body protein, and faster lipid and energy consumption rate than wild type salmon. This suggests that the likelihood of genetically modified salmon achieving a maximum growth size, or even surviving in habitats that have fewer resources, are much lower than the wild type of salmon. More importantly, differences in abdominal wall thickness, as well as muscle fibre width and height were observed by Hill et al. in a comparison of genetically modified salmon and wild type salmon. Observable differences in red and white muscle recruitment were also noted by Hill, with genetically enhanced salmon showing more red muscle recruitment and lower white muscle recruitment than the wild type. Red muscle fibres are considered to be fast twitch fibres, specializing in short, anaerobic and intense muscle activity movement. White muscle fibres are slow twitch fibres, which specialize in aerobic, repetitive,…

Social Media has changed and improved the way that we live today. We can become friends with people who live on the opposite side of us in the earth. Also social media can combined the people who live in the south side of the earth with the people who live in the north side. People can share their pictures, check out what they interested in and can be in communication with each other by calling each other in video. But how can we know whether those people are saying the truth about their personality, which is name, age, and picture, or not. Usually we don’t even ask ourselves if these people could be totally faking than whom they really are.…

In view of all that has been mentioned above, it is illustrated that molecular cloning has a very different process from therapeutic and reproductive cloning. Keeping in mind, both therapeutic and reproductive cloning techniques are very similar, concluding the same results, but are used for different types of practice. Development of therapeutic and reproductive cloning has been measured through the methods of nuclear transfer (SCNT) and embryo twinning. On the contrary, the development of molecular cloning is a method of inserting a foreign DNA into a vector, which is then left under laboratory conditions for it to multiply and replicate numerous times.…

What is a GloFish? GloFish is a genetically modified animal, a fluorescent zebra fish. It is made and then advertised by Yorktown technologies. It is a genetically modified organism (or GMO). The fish got the fluorescence from a red fluorescent protein from a sea anemone under the myosin light peptide 2 genes of zebra fish. The new green colored fish got is color from the extracted Green Fluorescent Protein that is taken from one jellyfish species called Aequorea victoria. These fish are beneficial for a lot of things including the economy, environment and the entertainment of the people.…

The United States is a leader in the Vietnamese catfish industry and, in 2001, produced 597 million pounds of catfish. Catfish is a particularly popular dish in the southern states of the United States and produced domestically in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana in man-made freshwater ponds. Although the U.S. is clearly one of the top producers in the market, Vietnamese catfish importers have been causing problems for the United States’ domestic catfish industry.…
