Ocean Blue Research Paper
Have you ever wondered why we see the grass green or the ocean blue ?. Liquid water absorbs short wavelength light (UV), long wavelengths and infrared light. Each color has a different wavelength, so it is refracted at a slightly different angle, resulting in dispersion. The colors visible spectrum results in the light response, the absorption, reflection, transmission and in the color addition/subtraction.
Out of the visible light spectrum the most absorbed is the red-orange along with the yellow-green, and the blue-violet. As the light hits the water it gives it that darker or lighter blue. What the water contains can also affects its appearance, for example too much salt can produce the water in appearing brown. The combination of the UV lights, and the absorbing light particles gave the water the blue appearance.
Grass is something we see everywhere and it appears green. The leaves and the stem reflect a green light as they also absorb multiple colors. Molecules that absorb colors are usually called pigments. As humans and animals have pigments in the skin plants have a different kind of pigment. The most common pigment they have is chlorophyll which happens to absorb the red and green light. There is different types of radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, visible light, x-rays, and gamma rays. The radio waves for example are used to transmit radio and television signals. Infrared waves are used to tell temperature of different areas. Visible lights is what we use to see and that can also cause diseases such as skin cancer.
