In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, and the Merciful who gave us might and competence to comprehend this term report. This report is a part of our course Organizational Change & Development and is concluded by the collective efforts of all the members of our group. First of all, we would like to convey appreciation to our course instructor Mr. Ali Mujahid who provided us an opportunity to work and learn as to the practical application of the contents we learned throughout our course. Our course facilitator also offered us with utmost help and support for which we will always be thankful.

We would also like to thank members of PSO Pakistan specially Imran Hussain Mughal; Executive Human Resource for giving us their valuable time.

Last, but certainly not the least, we are appreciative to all our fellows and friends who helped us by providing us with their honest comments and suggestions that in a way has helped us to complete this report.

INTRODUCTION TO PAKISTAN STATE OIL

The formation of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) took place in 1974, when the government acquired and merged Pakistan National Oil (PNO) and Dawood Petroleum Limited (DPL) as Premiere Oil Company Limited (POCL). Then, Petroleum Storage Development Corporation (PSDC) came into being and PSDC was then renamed as State Oil Company Limited (SOCL) in 1976. Thereafter ESSO was bought and control was held by SOCL. On 30th December 1976 the merger of the Premier Oil Company Limited and State Oil Company Limited took place which led to the establishment of Pakistan State Oil (PSO). After PSO’s initiation, the corporate culture comprehensively renewed and was fully implemented in 2004. This program over the years included the renovating of the organizational architecture, rationalization of staff, employee empowerment and transparency in decision making through cross functional teams. This new corporate renewal program has split the company’s major operations into independent activities supported by legal, financial, informative and other services. In order to strengthen and examine this structural change, related check and balances have been set up by incorporating monitoring and control systems.  Human Resource Development became one of the main priorities on the company’s agenda under this corporate transformation TARGET MARKET

PSO is the market leader in the country’s energy sector. The company has a huge network of retail pumps to cater to the vehicle sector and is the main fuel supplier to airlines, railways, power projects, armed forces and agriculture sector. PSO also provides Jet Fuel to Refueling Facilities at 9 airports in Pakistan and ship fuel at 3 ports.
