Observation Of David Constancio's Reaction In High School

At approximately 3:45 I, David Constancio, was called into the cafeteria by the 4th/5th Grade Team Leader, Duc-Huy Nguyen to assist with a student. When I arrived in the cafeteria I observed Jocelyn Elizarraras crying while being comforted by her classmates. The TL explained that the boys were being disrespectful towards Jocelyn and she became upset and grabbed a “spork” from the supper and attempted to “stab” her wrist. Another students yelled out, “Jocelyn is trying to kill herself!” I took Jocelyn into the staff lounge where I asked her to first calm down and take a few deep breaths. I spoke with Jocelyn about what happened and ask questions in regards to her trying to self-harm. She explained to me that she was not trying to commit suicide and that she was fine. I asked her why she would do this and her reply was, “I just thought that if I felt a little bit of pain I would stop feeling sad about being teased by the boys.” I express that we value her and want her to be safe and care about her.
Jocelyn return to class and finished out the day with the TL keeping a close eye on her while I called my area specialist Adrian Williams and spoke with the school’s Principal, Ellen Lee-Carlson. Adrian and I decided the best thing was for him to contact district representatives regarding this matter and I would follow up with the parents. Principal Lee and I decided to look into what lead up to the event and see if we can resolve that issue as well. I spoke with all parties involved and parents and will follow up tomorrow with everyone to determine the best course of action. Jocelyn’s mother and I spoke regarding my concerns and she will be speaking with Jocelyn about what happened and will attempt to get answers I was unable to get. Mom appreciated the offer to have district services but mentioned that she is a state worker and have many resources at her
