The birthing center is a site managed by kind and understanding nurses, who are willing to do anything to help accommodate and facilitate birth for the mother and her baby. The purpose of the birthing center is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the future mother and her infant. The nurses there are very compassionate and understanding, making the patient’s stay a great one. In the birthing center there is various equipment to be found, for both the wellbeing of the baby and the mother.. The type of equipment used often varies on the reason and the person it is going to be used for. The technology and equipment I observed include Computers, Thermometer, heart monitor (for both the mother and the baby), vital signs, the medication
The birthing center is a department that involves various different teams. There are the labor and delivery nurses, the postpartum nurses, and the NICU nurses. Alongside the nurses are the doctors which include the anesthesiologist and the OB GYN. In such a big department with various different roles, the communication and teaming skills are essential. The labor and delivery nurses must be in contact with the patient in order to give them their best treatment possible. They must communicate the the NICU if there is any complications that could lead to problems with the baby’s health. They should also keep the postpartum nurses uptodate with the mother’s health status. Specifically, the nurses have to communicate between the patient and the doctor in order to assure all the information if correct. For safety procedures, the nurses must gel in and gel out as well as wearing gloves. They must also make sure all the equipment in the room is clean and available incase of any emergencies. She will also make sure that each equipment if properly cleaned before and after each examination. Some diagnostic procedures I observed include temperature check, physical examination, and cervical dilation check. I enjoyed my time in that rotation very much, and I definitely believe I could work there. However, I would like to primarily care for the baby itself than for the mother. This rotation proved to be very important to be because I was not totally sure if I wanted to care for the mother in labor or for the baby. After spending two weeks there I was able to realize that caring for the baby is what I prefer. It will help me in the future by showing me the proper way to communicate to a mother about her child and of how to interact with other healthcare professioals. This roattion was honestly one of the best ones I have had so far, and it has definitely showed me that working in the medical field is what I would like to
