Observation on Consumer Behavior at Target
Place: Target in Santa Ana
Time: 11:00 to 1 pm March 9, 2014
Objective: Observation on Target’s customers shopping experience
After spending hour at Target on Sunday afternoon, there was not very much crowd on my whole visited. During of my entire visit, I observed how Target has attract a lot customers by offering them free Wi-Fi and great apps for IOS and Android users like Cartwheel, mobile coupon, Target matching deal by buying 3 get free $5 gift card. Target has also accepting WIC and ETB program more recently. Target cafe and Starbucks, and how the checkout process.
As sitting here for one hour at Target cafe, there was only one person who works at cafe and Starbuck, but people were still wanted to wait and get their order. Target cafe has expanded its food menu by introducing a full meal like pizza, sandwich, salad, snacks, and drink, and kid menus. I have noticed most people who came with their kids, they have thought for a second that should they have a "plus up meal for $2.49 and up", and a popcorn for their kids since the smell of popcorn smell so good, and the popcorn came with their meal. Besides cooperating with popular brands with Pizza Hut, Jamba Juice, Coco-Cola companies, Target has also cooperating with Starbucks, which stands next to the cafe. The amount of customers who came to the cafe and Starbuck are the about the same, since Starbuck is a well-known coffee house and variety of coffees, some pastries and snack. I have observed 35 people who have come to the food court area, 3 kids, 4 teenagers, 17 woman and 11 man. The spacing between tables to tables are quite comfortable, Target wants its little food court area is a spot for everyone to grab lunch and late afternoon bite.
As my entire visiting, I have learned how the ways consumers act during their shopping experience, I saw difference people tried to save money in different ways. During my visited, I saw the two sisters played with a

When I conduct observations, I notice that the angry young woman makes efforts to restrain her anger and does not shout at the man. If she were at home, she would not have been so restrained. The restaurant is a public space and interactions in restaurants are conditioned by manners and customs (Yan, 2005). When dining out, people need to act in accord with the environment. It is absolutely impolite to shout in public places. However, the restaurant is a casual rather than formal dining place and makes people relaxed and comfortable.…

Target has used innovative marketing strategy and teamed up with several high-end designers to offer affordable collections on a short-term basis to the masses, and has installed many Starbucks within their stores. Graves Design, Isaac Mizrahi, and Missoni are a few of the designers that have partnered with Target. Having a Starbucks inside the store seems to attract many customers who want to get a coffee and shop all at the same time. Target also offers its own brand of up-scale sundries marketed under the Up and Up brand. Target has a market presence which appeals too many middle class Americans looking to get the most value for their money.…

The customers they want to attract are obvious because of the locations they choose and the ads they put out. Chances are that if a person were to go into a well populated suburban area a Target will be there. They attract young families by putting a grocery section, clothes for all ages, and a pharmacy in their stores for their customers convenience. In recent visits I have noticed that their target customers are on point. The typical customer I saw there was in fact, middle to upper middle class and either middle aged or younger. The age was obvious on the customers, but what social class they were in was harder to spot. Judging by their clothes, the amount of money they spent and the cars they drove a person can assume that they were a typical American household. During the process of checking out I noticed three things. First, their customer service wasn't of the best quality, some of the workers don't make eye contact and some don't even bother to greet their customers. This conflict makes Target look bad, treating customers with little to no respect is not what their mission statement is all about. In Target’s “about us” section they talk about wanting each experience in the store to be the best a customer has ever had, but with the rude customer service their quantity of the items doesn't make up for the quality of the service. The second thing I noticed…
