Objective Descriptions
When searching my items on Ebay and AllMyLife I tended to see a mix of both subjective and objective descriptions. For false teeth, the description on AllMyLife was more objective with the showing of a more gruesome picture and description about why they didn't need them anymore. On Ebay, it was more subjective nothing personal just a straight forward, description of the item. The visuals on both had a very big part on shaping their descriptions, with one being more clean it was more subjective and with the other dirty and having a very objective description. In addition with that, it seemed each ad had a goal of reaching a specific type of audience. In fact the more objective description was trying to reach more to someone who could relate and know where the product was coming from. While on the other hand, the subjective was not trying to relate or tell where it was coming from just trying to sell the product straight to the consumer to meet their needs.

Similarly, the second item I reviewed the green sweater had somewhat of a similar trend. Like the teeth, the AllMyLife description had a more objective description as well as picture to go along with it, from telling to what they got for Christmas as

Ebay tended to describe things more subjectively and have more professional photos. AllMyLife described their products more objectively and their photos were more home made you could say. For both of the items after reviewing their descriptions I feel that I could want to buy the item with a more subjective description. Mainly, because it feels more new and does not feel used like the objective described ones. Just knowing where it has been and who it belonged to does not sell to me particularly but it might to others. In other words, it really just depends on the buyer and what they are looking for, because both descriptions can sell to a different particular

The seller on “AllMyLife” appeals to an audience that is in search of a product that has more meaning and history behind it. For example in the article the seller states, “I will warn you that the first batch usually tastes a little wonky..” (Freyer). On eBay the majority of the auctions appeal to a buyer that needs more specifics rather than the history behind the used product. For example on the home brewing kit auction from eBay, the seller states gives specific information about the kit, “It includes essential brewing tools plus a 7.8 gallon fermenting bucket and 6 gallon glass carboy.”…

Though capturing visuals of an object may enhance any project, when including a personal belief or background story towards the main item, it helps the buyer and the seller create a personal connection towards the sneakers. There was this mutual connection when he would state his opinion on how capitalism was is being managed by big American corporations. Just by seeing that statement, it instantly created a bond between John and me. When he had stated that those sneakers were one of the last American crafted Converse, the need to purchase them increased because of the way he scripted its authenticity. Although it may seem accessible to judge an object by viewing photographs, skimming through a detailed definition of the article doubtlessly heightens the influence of the…

My first reason is that they are usually dishonest. Many advertisements over exaggerate their product and make it seem a lot greater than what it really is. Ways they do this is through celebrities endorsing their product even if they never used it! Photoshop can also be a way they deceive their uniformed consumers, like with make up ads. They sometimes make awful things look great! Alcohol and smoking are often glorified and made to look fun and they don't show the negative side to it so people who are uniformed or unaware of the effects of these things may be tempted to try them out. It is unethical to not show both ends of the spectrum and just saying what is great about a product. Some products cons outweigh…

Often times we don’t really think about the things that we see and how they are presented to us. We tend to focus on what is being showed to us rather than how we feel about the certain objects. Many companies and manufacturers use advertisements that will focus on a certain age group and use pictures or facts that people of that age would be interested in. Along with focusing on a particular age group, companies and manufacturers also use rhetoric and Aristotle’s three appeals (logos, pathos, and ethos). One particular advertisement that shows great examples of rhetoric and Aristotle’s three appeals is the advertisement shown to the right. These are the parts of advertisement that we don’t think about when looking to buy something we necessarily weren’t interested in but was brought to our attention.…

Advertising is a way of producing commercials for products or services. In a fast paced world that we live in today, all types of information is thrown at us at an uncomfortable rate. On tablets, smartphones, computers, newspapers, radio and TV, we encounter ads for all kinds of products from a vast variety of large corporate companies almost every single day. In places like Manhattan, more specifically Times Square, there are a plethora of advertisements on grand billboards and on beautiful immersive screens that rest beside buildings. Ad’s have drastically increased since the turn of the twenty first century. Companies use clever tactics, such as weasel words and psychological tactics to differentiate them from other companies. Words like better, improved, new, fast and so forth play a deciding factor when buying a product, and it is up to the consumer to analyze the truth behind these words. In the article “With These Words I Can Sell You Anything” by William Luts, he states that “Advertisers use weasel words to appear to be making a claim for a product when in fact they are making no claim at all” (62). Companies want the consumer to feel the need to buy their products, as if it were drastically changing the person's life. Advertising is an effective method used by companies to promote their ideas through their…

In the book “Tell My Horse” by Zora Neale Hurston she constantly talks about the difference between men and women. She demonstrates in many occasions of the book the hardships women faces in the Caribbean by always being looked down upon and constantly being treated unequally by men. Also, that there would always be difference between men and women. Even though she sometimes tries to defend the rights of women, she is always interrupted by men who feel otherwise. Hurston wants to show her audience the sufferings and mistreated of women and how they are unspeakable and it’s beyond our conception.…

“When you smoke herb, it reveals yourself to you,” is a famous quote of the pothead and marvelous musician Bob Marley. He felt as though marijuana helped tune in with your inner being. I believe cannabis that cannabis does this too and therefore have become a habitual marijuana consumer. Being in tune with ones inner being is important, yet not the reason that I smoke cannabis. The cannabis plant is beautiful, from the leaf to the buds you smoke. I love the ‘highs’ from smoking marijuana, and last but not least, I love how I can function while ‘high’. The summary is that little nuggets of joy have been crucial in making me who I am now, and I am grateful for everything marijuana has brought.…

Nowadays you can see advertisement everywhere. Advertisements are forcing their way into people’s lives. People refer to advertisements in their daily lives because they are consumers. The advertisers are usually manufacturers, retailers and salesmen. Their merchandises need to be advertised to make consumers pay attention to. Thus majority of products are advertised in different ways, and ‘ads’ come in different forms, like billboards, newspaper advertisements, TV advertisements, and so on. All advertisements are designed to make people buy a product. To a large extent, good advertising leads to success, while bad advertising can mean failure. How can we evaluate whether an advertisement is good or not? How can advertisers make advertisements be attractive? There are several important factors in advertisements, especially the advertising language, and advertising language is different from any other kinds of language. Advertising language is very specific that lots of weasel words are used in advertising language, and advertising language are always very simple; these features can be illustrated by an advertisement that I found in a magazine.…
