The problem I selected is the living conditions in America during the industrial revolution. This was a problem in American that began when Americans began to create these companies a long time ago. Things started to get bad as people like John Rockefeller; and other big business owners that began to take over every type of business, from oil, to railroad, and to clothes. These businesses began to rise over competition and become huge corporations. One thing these businesses needed was more workers because the need for more product. So these tycoons called the jobs of the working pool of America. The Industrial Revolution had big corporations that needed lots of workers to fill their needs for a lot of products. So these led to a lot of workers living near the working area of these Industrial Corporation, in urban environments where their corporations were located. However, these jobs would lead two very little pay at all, not even enough to sustain a house that was relatively nice. The houses the workers could afford were in the cities and called tenements, they were masses of poor people all live together 2-4 families in each tenement in the apartment type building. This led to really bad conditions due to the lack of plumbing and bathrooms in each tournament. So they had to find other means of getting rid of this waste and bathing, like bringing gallons and gallons of well water from outside to these their houses. They would throw their body waste somewhere that wasn't in the house to stink it up, which lead to lots of pollution in the streets. Many people become sick due to the horrible living standards let me emphasize horrible, to the point where people were dying do to infections just from this waste in the street and waste in the house. And the sad part, no one was hoping to get rid of these horrible living standards, no one. Business owners didn't care because they had people lined up just to get the job at that the guy that died had

When the demand for labor increased, so did the industrialization in the cities and the population shifted toward the urban area. Many downfalls accompanied the urbanization such as water pollution and air pollution from the coal. Many families lived in row housing in the cities, often six people in a bed and that close proximity as well as to neighbors help to spread diseases, (“The Industrial Revolution.” n.d.). The streets of the cities would become littered with trash, as sanitary conditions were poor and the cities would become filthy and unhealthy.…

As the Industrial Revolution came about in the early 1800’s and it had a big impact on not only how people lived, but how long people lived. From the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, the life expectancy of a professional was only to the age of 38, it was 20 years old for a person of the middle class or an average person, and for a laborer in the factories the life expectancy was about 17 years old. (Doc. 8) The reason for terrible numbers is all of the pollution in the air and water throughout the city. From The Graphic magazine, the picture shows the view from the Blackfriars bridge over the River Irwell. The picture shows all of the pollution in the air and the water. It shows all of the pollutants from the factories through the smoke…

The Industrial Revolution had many negative effects. One negative effect was injuries and death on the job. In the Testimony, by Joseph Hebergam, Hambergam was a man who is sick and he is talking to a man about how he caught his illness by damaged lungs and his leg muscles won't function properly and will not support the weight of his bones. He also talks about how he will die in a year. In the testimony he explains how he received the illness from the dust in the factories and from overworking and insufficient diet. Then the man goes into talking how his brother died from a cut from a machine and died of infection. Another negative effect would be that people's life-spans decreased, a lot. The average life-span for a farm workers was 38, the average for a factory worker was…

The Industrial revolution also had its downfall, being that the people had to live in poor conditions. The peoples homes were made of brick, usually about one to two stories high with no bathrooms or windows. These homes were very small and held about 30 people, so they were very cramped. The roads were also very bad. They were unpaved with potholes that were filled with filthy puddles of waste that was gathered because the homes had no gutters or drains. Many people in closed areas led to slums, that were out of sight to the wealthier members of society. (DOC #5)…

However, they were wrong. As more people moved to the cities, living conditions worsened because there was not proper plumbing, sewage, and the water was extremely dirty. People would just leave trash on the streets as well. Most houses did not have toilets so people went to the bathroom outside. Some would collect their waste and then throw them outside. Because of that, the waste heaps seeped down into the earth and contaminated the water supplies. The waste carried disease carrying germs into the water, so when people drank water, they would get infected with a disease. Also, because there was no plumbing at all, rats would get in the water and contaminate it as well which would then lead to people getting sick. In 1849, one scientist, Dr. John Snow, found out that people were getting sick from polluted water. After that discovery, health boards were set up to establish better standards of sanitation, government officials were told to clean up the towns and cities, they were instructed to provide for the removal of solid waste heaps and other household wastes, to clean the streets, and to whitewash houses wherever possible. The Industrial Revolution was extremely important because it helped people to have better living conditions…

With the rapid growth of industry there were bound to be some problems that would affect society. Industrial companies now required more laborers to meet demands, all sorts of people started flowing into the cities for a chance to fill in these jobs. Although, not all these people looking for jobs could get one, with so many people willing to work these industrial jobs were hard to get into because of intense competition. Even if you could get a job working was not easy. Knowing the people were desperate and needed the money, the companies did not care for their workers at all. Wages were low, but it was their only source of income so the workers could not leave. Hours were gruesomely long, but they had to keep working to feed their families. The working conditions were also horrible, many worked dangerous jobs with no protection of their lives because they could be easily replaced by the next guy looking for a job. Industrialization may have had a positive outcome for some but it hurt more people than it helped. With no government regulation over business companies could form huge monopolies to control whole industries. This lead to even more problems, with no other competitors these monopolies controlled their own prices and had enough power to even influence government. The laissez-faire government could not regulate the prices so people were forced to pay what the companies asked. The lower…
