The reasons I am against Obama’s gun ban is as follows. The Second Amendment states that the people have the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. When the government steps in and starts deciding what kind of arms we can and cannot keep, or what we cannot bear that is an infringement on our rights
I will cover several reasons why are gun rights should not be infringed upon by Obama’s gun ban His ban targets the wrong weapon to begin with, most weapons used in crimes in the United States is the handgun not the assault rifles. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report shows that 8,583 homicides 6,220 were handguns ("Crime in the," 2011).
So by the FBI’s on research assault rifles are not the problem, so ask yourself why are they going after them with a vengeance? Banning handguns will not work either, your just stopping law-abiding citizens from buying them. Criminals will always have access to weapons no matter what the bans says. As an ex deputy sheriff his ban frightens me. I have never taken an assault weapon off a criminal, but plenty of handguns and a large number of them were stolen. Stolen from people who legally bought them. Stricter gun laws is also not the answer to this problem, some of the cities that have strict gun laws have the worst gun crime in the states (Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore.)
Criminals in those cities have nothing to worry about, they know that if the rob someone or break into a house the only gun they have to worry about is the one they are carrying.
Response time for the average law enforcement officer is thirty minutes, I’m not sure your understanding what I just said its THIRTY minutes. We live in the country so its longer response time for us, I for one am not going to let someone come into my house and harm ANYONE in my family and the Second Amendment gives me that right.
