O Brother Where Art T Thou Analysis
Many ancient arts or stories can influence modern storytelling. Although there will be differences in each interpretation of that story, it will keep the main point. Some depictions of a story might be more visually appealing than others. The Odyssey and “O brother Where Art Thou” had many similarities and differences. The video clip from “ O brother Where Art Thou” had many similarities to Homer's The Odyssey text. In Homer's text he mentions of sirens with a harmonious irresistible song “So they with voices sweet their music poured melodious on my ear.” In the video clip as well as Homer's text each story has a crew within in it. Odysseus was also in the video clip just as his romantic name Ulysses. The video clip and Homer's text

In conclusion, while O Brother, Where Art Thou may have been based on the Odyssey by Homer it is almost completely Americanized. The film by the Coen brothers used the concept of the Odyssey to tell an American epic about the values that American culture holds above all others. The values shown are a part of the journey the trio makes and sometimes with the company of Tommy. By adhering to the values set by the American culture the trio advances toward their final goal, and are admired by those who share their values. In the end of O Brother, Where Art Thou is an American Odyssey with the final lesson of the epic being living a virtuous life will lead you to what you truly…

In “Homer’s Odyssey” the poem is told from Odysseus point of view. He portrays the Sirens as mysterious and luring. Circes advises Odysseus that the Sirens “spellbind any man alive, whoever comes their way.” Gaining this knowledge, Odysseus made his sailors plug their ears with beeswax so they would avoid hearing the thrilling songs of the Sirens. Ulysses and The Sirens by John Williams Waterhouse shows the mythical creatures who in the painting have forced odysseus crew members to tie him to the ship post in order to make him listen to the song the Sirens were singing. The mood of the painting can be described as menacing, which demonstrates the idea that the painting gives off a frightening feeling. When the film O Bother Where Art Thou first started, I was unable to make any correlation between that and The Odyssey, but as it progressed I soon was able to follow the plot and match creatures to their ancient Greek counterparts. As Odysseus encountered many monsters, mystical creatures, and gods, Ulysses (the main Odysseus like character in O Bother Where Art Thou) had many of his own encounters with Odyssey like creatures. While O Bother Where Art Thou is based on The Odyssey they still have there similarities and differences in the way the various creatures are portrayed. Because of the way the different creatures are portrayed, it also gives them different symbolic relevance to the viewers.…

Odysseus tells the event from his point of view, so in first person. This gives the story more action because it is a closer encounter of his feelings. What he feels and experiences from the sirens is best perceived from the person who experiences it. In the “Siren Song” the tone is depressing. It sends sadness because it describes the sirens actions as a plea for help.…

Even beyond fairy tales, most fiction stories fall into a typical patter with a beginning problem, a training period, a set back of the hero, the hero overcoming the obstacle, the conflict, and finally resolution. There are no original thoughts, just old thoughts combined in different patterns or adjusted to fit the current society. Music, fashion, and movies are an example of the never ending recycling of ideas. There are only so many musical combinations or clothing styles that people find pleasing. It is inevitable that…

While Edwidge and her brother Bob lived in Haiti with their Aunt and Uncle they would receive a half page, three paragraph letter every other month since Joseph and Denise didn’t have a phone and call centers where too costly. The letter was always addressed to Joseph and the lettered was structured so that “the first paragraph offer(ed) news of his and my mother’s health, the second detailing how to spend the money they had wired for food, lodging and school expense for Bob and myself, the third section concluding abruptly after reassuring us that we’d be hearing from him before long (Brother, I’m Dying page 22)”. Later on in life Edwidge would learn from her father that he wanted to tell her and Bob a lot more than what could be fit onto any piece of paper and small envelope (kakutani). It’s unfortunate but if Mira had made these letters more personal and attached to his children then it would just make the separation harder for both parties in this situation. Sometimes it us just best to leave things unsaid in order to protect both sides of the family from the grief of separation.…
