NY State Fair
The New York State Fair
The Great New York State Fair is a great way to end the summer here in upstate New York. The fair takes place in Syracuse, NY on 375 acres. The twelve day long festival happens to be the oldest in the country. First held in 1841; however, still is a tradition every year today. For a fee of ten dollars and all of the entertainment you can ask for it cannot be beat. The fair includes Midway rides and entertainment, agriculture, and even concerts that are included in the ten dollar admission fee. There are many different shows and activities to see and participate in at this great event; in addition, there are a few that are most popular. Three very popular areas at the state fair are Chevy Court, where the concerts are held and Empire Expo Center, where stock car racing and car shows are held. The third most popular attraction is the Midway where all of the rides and most games are located. With an admission fee of ten dollars to enter the state fair and only a five dollar parking fee, Chevy Court holds two different performing artists every day; which is, included in your admission. This year there was even Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan who performed. On nights where there is a band or someone very popular playing, there will be thousands of people just in Chevy Court. People come to the state fair just to see concerts and not even for the rest of the event. There are many concessions and even other entertainment other than the music in this area of the fair. There are rows of bleachers set up for the fans; however, the bleachers are always full and people are standing. Chevy Court is also just on the outside of the agriculture and animals. Here is where the petting zoos and exhibits are for farm animals. Where there are cows, horses, and other livestock. The Empire Expo Center is one of the biggest attractions of the New York State Fair. This is where stock car racing and classic car shows are held. Even the equine industry

The fair gave many people the chance to see things for the first time like the zipper, instant pancake mix, juicy fruit gum, Cracker Jack, and an all-electric kitchen (pg 247). All of these new inventions were showcased at the fair making the fair the start of the technological expansion. The World’s Columbian Exposition can be seen as the start of the entertainment expansion of America. The fair was the begin of the realization that people could make money by selling experience. Because of the fair people begin to pay for movies and entertainment (class discussion December 7). The greenery of the fair had influenced many people, which later transformed into the creation of ballparks and the college football stadiums of Harvard and Yale. The fair created a vast expansion of technology and entertainment around America that can still be seen to-day at Walt Disney World. Walt Disney’s father worked at the fair so I think it’s safe to say that his amusement parks were inspired by the World’s Columbian Exposition. One might compare the ideas of the Midway to the ideas of…

Tiek’s “fairy tale” of Eckbert the fair strays from the classical conception of style given to modern fairy tales. Fairy tales are often associated with several defining characteristics; extra-ordinary circumstances, “happy endings” and a moral to be learned. While Tieck’s tale does obey two of these three guidelines, he does so in a negative manor going the opposite way of twentieth century thought. Tiek’s protagonist Eckbert is first and foremost described as “…little more than medium height with short, light blond hair that hung in a plain fashion, closely framing his pale, drawn face.” (pg.35). Eckbert is, normal, plain and pale. Average in more ways than one. A stark difference with traditional fairy tales has already showed itself in Tiek’s opening paragraph. The main character, Eckbert is a plain quiet simple man. As opposed to traditionally tales whereas the lead is a special person, in special circumstances. Furthermore the perspective changes within the narrative bouncing from Eckbert to his wife Bertha and then back to Eckbert.…

In 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World; the 1893 Chicago World’s Exposition was a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of his ‘discovery’ of the New World (the Americas). After winning hosting rights, Chicago used the fair to show the world that it had risen from the ashes of the devastating 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Jackson Park served as the six-month exposition’s venue and Daniel Burnham was the lead architect that supervised the design and planning of the exposition’s major buildings. These temporary neoclassical “buildings that were made from wood frame wrapped In staff, a plaster mixture that gave the illusion of stone” were referred to as the White City because they were painted white (Bolotin et al. ……..).…

The Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 was a huge event! Not only because the World’s fair is a big deal, but this particular World’s fair was a hard one for Chicago to get. Many other big cities put in their bids to host the event, including New York and Washington D.C. On May 1, 1893, the gates opened at the World’s Columbian Exposition. This fair which was meant to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage also served as a showcase for a fully rebuilt Chicago. ”At the core of the fair was an area that quickly became known as the White City for its buildings with white stucco siding and its streets illuminated by electric lights” (Maranzani, 2013).…

Between the first of May and the end of October, an estimated 27 million people attended Chicago's World's Columbian Exposition (Worlds Columbian Exposition), also known as Chicago World's fair of 1893. This fair was planned to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus voyage and discovery of the New World. However the fair was a year late due to political arguments. The exposition covered 630 acres in Jackson Park and the Midway Plaisance., and featuring nearly 200 new buildings (History Files). The inspiration for the World Columbian Exposition was part of the success of the Paris expositions in 1878 and 1888. The rivalry and competition between the two countries made the fair a great success. In 1888, the United States Congress passed a bill to allow for an exposition celebrating Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the Americas. Several major cities competed to host the exposition, including New York, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, and Chicago. Even though Chicago wasn’t the most popular city in the U.S, or the most clean, it was a city filled with slaughter houses and the smell from them. Much to everyone's surprise on April 25, 1890, President Benjamin Harrison announced Chicago as the winner for the location of the fair. The city was the most reasonable host because of its central location and abundant park space (1893 World's Columbian Exposition). Forty-six nations participated in the fair (Appelbaum 2). Each nation brought something interesting to the fair such as culture and architecture. The Exposition was an influential event on the American society. The fair made a great impact on architecture, technology, and culture.…

This is probably the most stressful part of the year. We try to make the least amount of trips to the fair as possible but it's usually about five-six trips. This year and every year we have to put as many cages in the back of the truck as possible which is hard to arrange them all. After we have that all situated we have to catch all the birds, clean them and check them all to make sure that bird was the best bird to take. After we get all the birds, sheep, and rabbits there, and their pens are all set up we can't wait to get home, and take a late night swim in the…
