Nutrition Personal Statement
The foundation of my passion for nutrition and health was laid early in my life. Growing up with a dietitian for a mother, I was taught from an early age that the cornerstone of a complete picture of health is a nutritious diet. I was taught that food is our medicine—we either pay for medical bills to combat chronic diseases or we pay for foods that nurture our bodies. Our daily lifestyle activities cultivated an environment of complete health that has impacted my success in life thus far and is helping me avoid the numerous chronic diseases that plague our society. It is for this reason that I have fallen in love with the field of dietetics—particularly the preventative aspect. My undergraduate studies in Food Science, Nutrition and Health …show more content…
Above all, I have developed myself as a strong leader who is able to create a positive, successful environment through excellent communication, strong interpersonal relationships, and outstanding organization. My ability to organize has provided me with strong praise from my supervisors and many opportunities to further utilize these skills. My strong ability to multi-task is evident through the numerous job, volunteer, and coordinator positions I have successfully held and completed during the same time frame. Due to my high involvement work experiences to pay for my college education and volunteer experiences diversify myself, I regret that I have low involvement in shadowing dietitians within clinical settings. However, my numerous experiences have provided opportunities for me to develop myself professionally and to practice skills in both dietetics and the physical aspect of health. It is because of this that I feel qualified to educate individuals on a healthful and nutritious lifestyle—one that combines a nutritious diet and physical activity to live the fullest of their ability and maintain a high standard of living into adulthood. These experiences have led me to develop the career aspirations which I will pursue after I graduate with a Bachelors of Science, complete my dietetic internship, and pass the Registered Dietitian exam. These aspirations include opening a private practice which allows me to provide nutrition counseling and physical training to my clients. In considering the various internships available for the next step in my professional development, my mother, a Morrison’s Healthcare dietitian, presented the internship program

Learning about equality, diversity and rights within this sector has been of particular interest. Working in a health and social care sector involves working alongside people who are of a different race, religion, age, ethnicity and sexuality and it is important to make sure that all individuals are treated fairly. I have also enjoyed learning about nutrition and the principles of healthy eating, and the impact of poor nutrition, for example, on childhood obesity. I feel strongly about promoting good nutrition and am currently planning a healthy eating and cooking session with a group of students who I am working with. This year I have also enrolled for GCSE Biology, which I am studying through a distance learning college, and this has confirmed my desire to study a science based course at a higher level.…

At Haven, I exchanged ideas with each of my patients on how they and their families can live healthier lives as I learned about their diverse lives and tried to make sense of it for them and others. Haven taught me how to become an effective listener, a fast learner, and an effective deliberator within a healthcare setting and serves as the foundation of those skills in my upcoming medical…
