To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. I am certified in First Aid and CPR, which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries.…

There are several ways to show the correlations between health, safety and nutrition. For example, children who abide by their parents rules and get the proper nutrition are less likely to fall ill or even have a broken bone. Getting all the daily recommended value of vitamins and minerals helps to build a strong immune system and strong bones in children. Therefore, the child is safe from viruses or injury. The best interests of a child are always on the mind of parents and teachers alike. Children are our future so it is natural to want to make the best decision for them until they reach the time where the responsibility can be handed over. Although it may be hard to allow children independence, we need to be confident in our ability to show through example. Teaching safety, nutrition and health, and how they are all dependent on each other. This will help build the foundation for these children to grow into happy, healthy, and confident adults (Marotz, 2009). Health, safety and nutrition need to be a consistent part of each child’s life every day. All of these elements lead a child to live a good life. “A child growing up in a loving family in which a healthy diet, safe environment, and opportunities for learning and recreation are provided is more likely to experience good health” (Marotz, 2009). Health is a large category, it focuses on the child’s overall well- being. Health has many sub categories and branches off to meet their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development requirements.…

This is an important goal for the age group in my care because not only does it set the foundation for lifelong healthy habits but it helps keep the other children, their families, and the staff from getting sick. I start by first helping them to understand the different aspects of good health and nutrition. I regularly remind the children to wash their hands before and after specific instances, such as before eating, after blowing their nose or using the bathroom, and explain why it is important and then make sure to model this personally. Another way I help prevent the spread of illness is by washing and sanitizing toys, dramatic play clothing, and cots on a regular basis. I assist with daily health checks to look for any signs of abuse or various cold symptoms in order to take any needed steps of action. I also routinely incorporate music and read related topical stories to reinforce their understanding of healthy choices and good nutrition. The child care setting where I work uses CACFP guidelines that promote nutrition through the mass use of fresh fruits and vegetables and I always encourage the children to try foods they don’t perceive they’ll…

Children and young people throughout their lives will make choices such as whether to eat healthy or unhealthy or start smoking or drinking. An early years setting should encourage healthy snacks and encourage parents to supply healthy balanced lunchboxes. The setting should involve the children in activities and discussions about the importance of healthy living but there will come a point where the children can choose for themselves. If a child/young person chooses to eat unhealthily this will have a negative impact on their wellbeing, this could have a dramatic or not so effect on their health in later life. For example they could develop diabetes or become obese from choosing to continually eat an unhealthy diet, but in a less extreme scenario they could just have bad skin conditions (spotty…

In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. It is essential to the growth and development of every child to advance their physical and intellectual needs. There are numerous ways to encourage this type of development. I offer a variety of activities that promote the advancement of the physical and intellectual competence of the children in my care. Children are encouraged to participate in daily large motor activities to enhance physical development. I do this by being very enthusiastic and even joining in with the children at play. Outside we play tag, ball, hopscotch, and other made up games. Inside we play parachute, and beanbag toss. I also communicate with the children and their parents about the importance of being physically active. In class we have discussions, and I send newsletters home to parents with ideas for activities. Children in my classroom get plenty of time for large motor activities and know why they are important to their health.…
