“Quack! Quack!” she exclaimed. “Yes it is bath time!” I replied as I gave my patient her nightly bath at my very first job as a nursing assistant for disabled adults. I remember initially being so excited to learn new procedures, medications and diseases. However, what I ultimately valued most during this experience was forming trusting, ongoing relationships with my patients (and learning that “Quack” meant bath!). The inimitable bond formed caring for these individuals motivated me to seek out a career in which I can provide meaningful and personalized care over time. Advanced practice nursing as a family nurse practitioner will allow me the opportunity to provide primary care services to individuals with chronic conditions beginning in childhood…

I have always been interested in psychology and the study of human behaviour, particularly as it relates to mental illness. I did psychology both for A' Level and for my degree, and I particularly enjoyed the aspects of the courses relating to the understanding and treatment of mental illness. When I left university in 2007 with an upper second class degree, I did consider pursuing a career in clinical psychology but decided at that stage to pursue full-time employment instead of engaging in further studies. Having worked in an office environment for a number of years, I have realised that I would prefer to be working in a more rewarding role and I believe I can find this in mental health nursing. I have a passion to provide care and support to those with mental illness, to get them to better health, and a desire to help address the stigma that is still often attached to mental illness. I have had extensive discussions with two of my friends who have undertaken nursing degrees and feel I would be energised by the challenges of the role i.e. working long hours in a demanding setting, to tight deadlines, and in a constantly changing environment.…

Personal Statement Initially, I knew I wanted my career to consist of helping others, but in high school I was unsure which profession I should pursue. I decided that I wanted to become a registered nurse shortly before I enrolled at J. Sargeant Reynolds full time. I was considering becoming an elementary school teacher, a counselor or a nurse. The summer of 2013 I went to the Philippines and helped at a pregnancy clinic. I could see myself becoming a nurse after that. The following summer I started volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, which has furthered my enthusiasm for nursing.…

Teyana Cleve Career Statement I want to pursue a traditional Bachelor's of Science/Registered Nursing Degree at Hunter College. It has been 3 years since I decided to pursue nursing as my profession. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2012 (inspiring me to consider the nursing field) and my younger sister was diagnosed with an anxiety and respiratory condition that required my active care. For 4 years I have assisted my mother and sister with their medications by learning and helping them to understand the purpose of each one. bathing my mother, and helping her with any physical needs. There was not a moment that I was not content. After three years in a selective introduction nursing program called Pathways to Nursing offered at Queens borough community college, I earned a CPR certification and have covered many different nursing procedures. Once I made up my mind, I never questioned nursing because I realized it was what I was meant to do. Nursing offers me a level of familiarity with patients that I wouldn’t have as a physician or surgeon.…

My passion and enthusiasm for the Nursing course was developed when my family underwent a drastic change. It was summer 2006 when my mother left the midwife profession in the Philippines in exchange for a job here in England. At that time, I was matched to take either Hotel Restaurant Management or Nursing in a University but I took the former than the latter. When I joined my siblings in University, unconsciously they seemed to be a great influence in changing my course preference. They were both in the medical field and I found their ardency and devotion infectious despite seeing them stressed. I realized that I wanted to have the same eagerness for my course and so, after many considerations, I made the decision to change my course into Nursing.…
