Nursing Home Experience Paper
I went twice to my family practice practicum site this week. I agree with the saying from Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”. I am learning more day by day from my practicum experiences. Nursing home experiences has enhanced my knowledge because plan of care and coding system is different at nursing home as compared to primary care offices. Plan of care depends upon accessibility and availability of the care at the nursing home whereas at primary care office if it is not available in the office, we can always refer. I found out that nurses know their patient really well at nursing home. It is helpful reviewing the chart as well as talking to the nurses about the patient prior to the …show more content…
I had a site visit this week. It is always stressful when you have your professor watching you while you are interacting and providing care to the patient. I learned that in the state of Virginia, if either partner has STIs, partner notification is upto the patient. However, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, chancroid, HIV, AIDs are reportable disease in every state. Also, expedited partner therapy varies per state. Also, if we have patient diagnosed with gonorrhea infection, selection of antibiotics for gonorrhea must also include possible coinfection with chlamydia because gonorrhea and chlamydia frequently occurs. I had an interesting case. I had a patient with pink eye, nasal congestion and occasional nonproductive cough. Patient did not have any shortness of breath, enlarged lymph nodes, sorethroat, headache, chest tightness. But, mother of the patient said that patient had pneumonia at this time of the year last year. His lungs sound was clear. Because of his history, I decided to do chest x-ray even though lungs sound were clear. It turned out that he had
