Nursing Career Progression
Six years ago, my mother and I moved from Indonesia to the United States in an effort to cure her of cancer. The nurses who attended to my mother were extraordinary people. Each day I visited, they would treat us with such kindness; unfortunately my mother and father both passed away from cancer, so I became determined to pursue a medical career to help those in need. Due to my life experience I have acquired a deep admiration and respect for nursing so I have already prepared for this future profession. Over the course of my high school career I have taken biology, psychology, and a human anatomy and physiology course. Additionally I am taking a CNA course through Waukesha County Technical College, which will familiarize me to the responsibilities of the workplace. In the next few weeks, I will begin clinicals at the Care-Age of Brookfield where I will be working with sixteen other students to care for the elderly. Furthermore, I plan on taking an additional psychology and a communication arts course through WCTC next semester to prepare for the rigor I will experience in my post-secondary education. Next year I plan on attending UW-Waukesha in order to complete my general education courses. Subsequently, I will transfer to either UW-Milwaukee or UW-Oshkosh to earn a my …show more content…
Since the death of my parents, I have always wanted to pursue a career that assisted others and what better way to do that than become a nurse. I will be able to provide invaluable emotional support and counsel patients and their families. Since having personally experienced loss, I have a better understanding as to what families are experiencing.
