Nursing Assistant Personal Statement
As a nursing assistant I am required to work together with fellow nursing assistants, nurses, therapists and doctors to provide care to patients and ensure safety. For instance, recently at the nursing home where I work, a patient was declared unresponsive. However with the help of my co-workers we effectively worked as a team to stabilize the patient until further medical help arrived. During this incident I was responsible for calling for help, obtaining the crash cart that possess and performing CPR. I am honored to say that I successful aided in the procedures necessary to regaining ones consciousness.
I believe that the golden rule in life is “treat others how you want to be treated,” while the platinum rule is “treat people how they want to be treated.” I say that to say this; good service is imperative to a patient and as a PCT I will assume the responsibility of ensuring that every patient is given quality care.

During high school I met a student who had no intentions on going to college due to financial issues. However, I knew that he was a very intelligent man and had the potential to achieve great things. So I encouraged him to apply for multiple scholarships and I informed him of the numerous financial assistance options that are available. Luckily, he took my advice and decided to work towards funding his college career. As of today he is currently enrolled in a community college and looks forward to graduating next

Nursing is, by definition, “a profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm”. However, that is not everything. A nurse is a caregiver, a provider, a supporter, and a friend. A nurse is a mediator, working as the middleman between the family and physician. Not only do nurses physically help save the lives of their patients, but they also provide emotional support to the patient and the patient’s family. Being a nurse reaches far beyond the scope of simply administering medication and providing physical care; to me, a nurse is a life-saver.…

“Quack! Quack!” she exclaimed. “Yes it is bath time!” I replied as I gave my patient her nightly bath at my very first job as a nursing assistant for disabled adults. I remember initially being so excited to learn new procedures, medications and diseases. However, what I ultimately valued most during this experience was forming trusting, ongoing relationships with my patients (and learning that “Quack” meant bath!). The inimitable bond formed caring for these individuals motivated me to seek out a career in which I can provide meaningful and personalized care over time. Advanced practice nursing as a family nurse practitioner will allow me the opportunity to provide primary care services to individuals with chronic conditions beginning in childhood…

There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…

Sitting on top of our 10-passenger van, I could see the entire dirt pitch with dusty chalk lines surrounded by hundreds of cheering fans. Two local Haitian teams battled it out on the soccer field that night as I sat and soaked it all in. I was in Gonaives, Haiti volunteering as a sports leader for a summer program through Zion’s Children of Haiti - a charity aimed at improving educational opportunities for children in need. Watching the game play out in front of me, I realized even though my Haitian Creole language skills were lacking, there was a language we had in common: “foutbòl”.…
