Nt1310 Unit 5 Essay
• Case - A case is a sort of chassis for the internals of a computer and acts as a kind of protection from dust etc. It is also more appealing to look at rather than the internals of the computer.

• Power Supply - Power supply unit is a component in a computer which turns the power coming from the socket (AC) to a usable and acceptable low-voltage power for the PC (DC).

• Motherboard - A motherboard is a printed circuit and is essentially the main core of and device. It distributes power to all the hardware components.

• CPU – Register, ALU, control unit - The CPU is a type of processor which acts as the brains of a computer and is an important part of any computer.

• ZIF socket - A ZIF socket is used to mount electronic devices and designed not to

• BIOS - Basic Input/output system is the program a computer's microprocessor uses to get the computer system to start soon after you have powered it up. Also, it looked after data movement amongst the computer's operating system and connected to many devices.

• CMOS - Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor also known as CMOS is an attached, battery driven semiconductor chip within the computer that contains data. This type of data can vary from the factory setting built into the computer to simply your digitally displayed date/time.
• System buses - System buses are a trail made up of cables and connectors that are used to transfer data amongst a computer's microprocessor and the RAM. The buses create a communication route for the data and switch signals moving amongst the main parts of a computer system.

The processor would be the brain of the computer and it is where all the computing is done. Memory is where the computer stores all of the information. Chipset would be in link between the processor and the outside world of the computer. It handles hard drives, USB ports, the keyboard and mouse, etc. Expansion slots are allow you to add additional cards to the computer. Some examples would be modems, sound cards, and things the motherboard doesn’t provide. Input/output devices allow you to connect devices to the computer such as printers, monitors, keyboards, mouses, speakers and a lot of other devices.…

The motherboard is, without a doubt, the primary component of the entire system. Without the support circuitry and functions this device provides, even the CPU is unable to work. A motherboard also known as main board, logic board, or system board. Typically the motherboard contains slots, and all the controllers required to control standard peripheral devices, such a display screen, keyboard and disk drive etc.…

Generally, a computer is any device that can perform numerical calculations--even an adding machine, an abacus, or a slide rule. Currently, however, the term usually refers to an electronic device that can perform a series of tasks according to a precise set of instructions. The set of instructions is called a program, and the tasks may include making arithmetic calculations, storing, retrieving, and processing data, controlling another device, or interacting with a person to perform a business function or to play a video game. Today's computers are marvels of miniaturization. Machines that once weighed 30 tons and occupied warehouse-size rooms now may weigh as little as 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms) can carried in a suit pocket or a purse. The "brains" of today's computers are integrated circuits (ICs), sometimes called microchips, or simply chips. These tiny silicon wafers can each contain millions of microscopic electronic components and are designed for many specific operations. Some chips make up a computer's central processing unit (CPU), which controls the computer's overall operation; some are math coprocessors that can perform millions of mathematical operations per second; and others are memory chips that can each store more than 16 million characters of information at one time.…
