Unit 1: Using ICT in Childcare Studies INTRODUCTION
In this assignment I will be answering questions set out, based on the course materials I have read in Unit 1, Using ICT in Childcare Studies. I will discuss the questions being asked about communication, the tools used, the benefits they provide for studying, analyse personal challenges, and how self assessment can develop knowledge.
How can you as a student and individual maintain effective communication with your tutor during studies. A student can maintain effective communication with their tutor through regular contact through e-mailing them, and speaking to them. During study time it is important for a student to be able to approach their tutor, with any questions and ideas they have about their course work or assignments. As a student I am able to sustain effective communication with my tutor, by using the information communication and technology skills that I have and am gaining through studying this course, these will enable me to access the online distance study. On the course website’s homepage I can log into my account, contact other students on the student campus page, it also helps me by telling me how to contact my tutor and counsellors

Once a week, I record my thoughts, feelings, and write about what I’m learning about in that unit. I feel this enriches my experience as it allows me to express myself in a way that I feel secure and safe, I can discuss my thoughts and opinions with other students online also. These technological tools help me to communicate myself through my studies, learning new ways to research information i.e. the internet, keeping files on activities completed, reading back on my reflective journal allows me to develop my ICT skills as a student, stay focussed on the course and keeps me

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor light source. LEDs are used as indicator lamps in many devices and are increasingly used for general lighting. Appearing as practical electronic components in 1962, early LEDs emitted low-intensity red light, but modern versions are available across the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared wavelengths, with very high brightness. When a light-emitting diode is switched on, electrons are able to recombine with holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence, and the color of the light (corresponding to the energy of the photon) is determined by the energy band gap of the semiconductor. An LED is often small in area (less than 1 mm2), and integrated optical components may be used to shape its radiation pattern. LEDs have many advantages over incandescent light sources including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, improved physical robustness, smaller size, and faster switching. However, LEDs powerful enough for room lighting are relatively expensive, and require more precise current and heat management than compact fluorescent lamp sources of comparable output.Light-emitting diodes are used in applications as diverse as aviation lighting automotive lighting, advertising, general lighting, and traffic signals. LEDs have allowed new text, video displays, and sensors to be developed, while their high switching rates are also useful in advanced communications technology. Infrared LEDs are also used in the remote control units of many commercial products including televisions, DVD players and other domestic appliances. LEDs are also used in seven-segment display.…

When performing a cable installation, there are a lot of things that you have to put into consideration. First, you want to draw up a plan. Some things that you would want to include in the plan would be: where your telecommunications rooms are located, what is the distance from your leased line to your core router, and what type of cable are you going to be using for your backbone and horizontal lines. The first thing shouldn’t be cost when you are designing a network. You want to think of the safety and how your network will function with different mediums of cable. These things are important because your network has to meet the needs of the company. You also want to make sure you have things in place like what type of fire protection your network will have. You want to make sure your racks in your telecommunication rooms are grounded properly. Without these things your network will not be very safe. You want it to be useful but you don’t want to lose everything in a telecommunications room because you failed to plan ahead for accidents that can happen.…
