The motherboard is the foundation of the computer. Everything that makes up a computer has to be attached to the motherboard. The motherboard has many components such as a processor, memory, chipset, expansion slots, and inputs/outputs. The processor would be the brain of the computer and it is where all the computing is done. Memory is where the computer stores all of the information. Chipset would be in link between the processor and the outside world of the computer. It handles hard drives, USB ports, the keyboard and mouse, etc. Expansion slots are allow you to add additional cards to the computer. Some examples would be modems, sound cards, and things the motherboard doesn’t provide. Input/output devices allow you to connect devices to the computer such as printers, monitors, keyboards, mouses, speakers and a lot of other devices. Upgrading just the motherboard would limit the improvement because you need to upgrade other things in order to have a variety of improvements. Such as, speed and other things. Upgrading the RAM and others would give your system a better performance than just upgrading the motherboard. The need for all the different busses on the motherboard is because there are millions of files and bits trying to get back to where they came from. There are also many jobs such as device management, data width, cycle rate, and type. They cannot be replaced with just one bus because all of the jobs cannot not be handle by one single bus and still be sufficient. 32-bit busses should be provided as well because a lot of programs still run on 32-bit busses. Without them being provided anything set up to run on a 32-bit system would not be able to run. There are many components of the motherboard such as the processor, memory, chipset, expansion slots, and input/output devices. Upgrading just the motherboard would bring improvements but not improvements to the system over all. The need for all the different busses is all the jobs
