The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is an agency of highly disciplined and trained people whom sometimes, although not terribly often, do the wrong thing. We were taught at an extremely young age that the police are friends of the community. There are honest and dishonest people in all societies, as well as in the police department. A police officer’s mission is to enforce the law which citizens mandate through Congress.…
Police history plays a big role in today’s police stations today. When we think about policing we think about what we see on TV and all the police shows and movies that are all out now. But in reality it is not really like that. Law enforcement in the United States have three levels of law enforcement that are local, state, and federal who have tasks every day , but their functions are somewhat distinct. Their main purpose of their daily objective is to serve and protect all citizens from any harm, and they also enforce all laws to people violating them as well. Because each agency has their distinct aspects in their work, this paper will provide a detailed summary of the local, state, and federal law enforcement, and a summary of possible future changes in laws and the impact these changes will have on policing.…
The reactive approach to fighting crime is for police to respond to a scene of a crime after the crime has been committed. This idea of policing is suitable for the amount of resources that police departments are given to fight crime. As the amount of crimes have increased over time, a new look into how local police departments fight crimes is necessary.…

Throughout the history of the United States, the ranks of police officers have been dominated by white males. As a result, the underrepresentation of minorities and women has long been a problem in policing. Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act made discriminating against any individual based upon their color, sex, religion or national origin illegal, thus paving the way for more minorities and women to become police officers. Before the implementation and enforcement of these acts, it was extremely difficult for minorities and women to get a job in policing. Experts in the field of law enforcement maintain that diversity in…
A resident may have been in trouble before or a family member may have had issues with a policeman and or with the criminal justice system. They may feel like they were not treated properly perhaps treated unfairly for their home, the way they dress, their surroundings and maybe just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They may feel as though they are characterized and judged on who they could be rather than who they really are. The citizens lose sight of the protection that officers provide for them and their families. They put up this wall and lose insight on the purpose of the officers and focus more on the threat of the officers. Community Policing starts with children and thus gaining respect from adults. Many times an offender…

Fred is drunk and driving his dad’s car. Fred is a 21 year old student at Columbia College. Fred rams into a parked car at 10th and Rogers. Thinking no one saw him; Fred moves his car and parks it on an adjacent lot. He sprints to his dorm room in Miller Hall. A neighbor saw the wreck and Fred running to the dorm. Police are called and they arrive ten minutes after the wreck. The officers see several empty beer cans and a bottle of tequila (half full) in the front seat. The tags are traced to Fred’s dad, who is called by police. Dad says that Fred is a student at Columbia College. Police run Fred's record and determine that he has two prior DWIs within the past five years. The third DWI in 10 years is a felony. Police contact Columbia College security who leads them to Fred’s dorm. Fred is passed out, so security lets them in. The officers smell intoxicants, give Fred some Field Sobriety tests (he fails) and confirm that he was driving the car. Fred is arrested for DWI. It is his third offense, a felony under Missouri law. Fred is given a breath test, which registers at .13 on the scale. During the processing of his arrest paperwork, the officers search Fred’s possessions which he brought to the station, and a small quantity of cocaine is found in Fred’s pocket. Fred is charged with DWI, leaving the scene, and possession of cocaine. What issues do you see? How should they be resolved? (50 points)…
Our criminal justice system demands a continuous evolution to create success within the department. The last 60 years society has provoked change with our criminal justice system. A major policy change took place in the state of Arizona due to illegal immigration. The policy was show your paper law. Hello, for my presentation my issue is about the brutal police throughout Australia. The actions of the policeman throughout nationwide have been an uproar. Australia are known and seen to have very brutal police men. Policeman who have been put in the publicity to be known as brutal from their wrong decisions, should they even be allowed to proceed in their job? I don’t think so! It’s horrible what stories you here from our local policeman and how they can just get let off so easily. If they do something wrong why can’t they lose their job and get treated the exact same as what a non-policemen would get treated like. I’m pretty sure if someone killed a guy with a Taser they would go to jail for life and not get let off easy.…
