Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July 1856, in Smiljan, now Croatia. He was the son of an Orthodox priest. In history, he will be remembered as a scientist who is openly opposed to the then unquestioned scientific authority to Thomas Edison. Tesla insisted on converting DC into AC, which even the great scientist Edison, did not have in his head. At the very beginning, Edison was Tesla's idol and worked with him for a time as an assistant. He worked 18 hours a day, seven days a week. Edison recommended Tesla to Charles Bachelor, former Edison's employer who sent the following letter: "I know two great men, you're one of them, and the other is this young man." However, soon after coming to great conflicts of opinion, after which Tesla was dissatisfied with the treatment of Edison's company, he opened his own company, "Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing." It is said that Edison told Tesla that he will give him $ 50,000 if he would improve the work of his generators. Tesla, of course, did it but when he came to take the promised $ 50,000, Thomas Edison said he was surprised: "Well, young man, you do not understand American humor". Edison, who is attributed the most credit for the invention of the electric light bulb, did not believe in the principle of alternating current, possibly because he invested a lot of money into his DC project. However, the fact that the two-way electricity had the range of several hundred kilometers versus a few kilometers DC brought victory to Tesla. At that time in the U.S., there ruled a real war of power. Edison went to illegal means (killing of dogs and publishing panfleta) to prove that Tesla’s project was dangerous. In this war Tesla won and in 1887, in New York, Tesla opened his own laboratory where he worked until his death.
