My whole life I have heard it said that going to college is a must to survive in the economy and live a successful life, but is that true? Recent events beg to differ as seen in a Newsweek article where they quoted a professor at Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, Anthony Carnevale, saying college graduates make up almost “40 percent of the unemployed in the U.S.”. This example forms just one argument that I will use, along with the price that college demands for its services and its uselessness in fields of employment, to convince you that college isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.…

However, these successful people went through difficult times and failed much in life, before becoming who they are now. While many people believe college is not worth it, it really is, because college is a pathway for many people into a great career, while also allowing graduates the gain of knowledge from the experience.…

Having a college education will definitely help when a person is shopping around in the job market. With the economy being in the state that it currently is in, a person without a college degree can easily be looked over when being compared to the person that does have the college degree. ” Over their careers, full-time, full-year workers whose highest degree is a bachelor 's make 74 percent more, on average, than those whose highest attainment is a high-school diploma, the authors found. College graduates are a lot more productive as members of society. President Emeritus of Northwestern University, Henry Bienan, argues that a college education results in “greater productivity, lower crime, better health, and better citizenship for more educated people.” In my opinion, education is always worthwhile. Even if you do not use it in the real world, the experience makes you grow as an individual. College opens the door to many career opportunities. Colleges offer career services, internships, job shadowing, job fairs, and volunteer opportunities to the students that attend. Most college students complete internships before graduation, giving them valuable employment experience. People who do not go to college are more likely to be unemployed. Unemployed individuals place a financial strain on society making a college degree worth it to taxpayers. Naturaly, college exposes students to diverse people and ideas. Yes, you can meet many different people in high school, but college is a little bit different. In college, you have the chance to socialize with other students from around the world and learn from professors with a variety of…

College gives you the extended learning skills that employers will look for when you're finding a job. The authors repeatedly express several statistics, including, “14 percent of people with a high school diploma make at least as much as those with a bachelor’s degree, and 17 percent of people with a bachelor’s degree make more than those with a professional degree.” This statistic also all depends on the major you want to pursue your career in. The choices a student makes about his or her field of study and later in a job can have a substantial impact on what he or she gets out of her degree…
