TDA 2.3 Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults For this section of my assignment I will be describing how to establish respectful, professional relationships with children, young people and adults. I will be describing with examples how to behave appropriately for a child or young person’s stage of development. I will be describing how my own behaviour could promote effective interactions with children and young people and how it could impact negatively on interactions with children and young people. I will be describing the importance of adult relationships as role models for children and young people. I will describe how communication with children and young people differs across different age ranges and stages of development. I will describe the main differences between communicating with adults and communicating with children and young people. i will be identifying examples of communication difficulties that may exist. I will describe how to adapt communication to meet different communication needs. I will be describing how to deal with disagreements between the practitioner and children, young people and adults. I will be identifying relevant legal requirements and procedures covering confidentiality, data protection and the disclosure of information. I will be describing the importance of reassuring children, young people and adults of the confidentiality of shared information and the limits of this and I will be identifying the kinds of situations when confidentiality protocols must be breached. 1. Know how to interact with and respond to children and young people. 1.1-2.1Describe how to establish respectful, professional relationships with children, young people and adults. To build respectful and professional relationships with children and young people it’s important that you adapt your behaviour and communication with the child’s age and understanding. When working with children it’s important that you are trustworthy and caring. When talking to children you have to show you’re positive, happy and are aware of your own body language and facial expressions this can help build relationships with each child and adult. When communicating with children you always need to ensure that you take in consideration of the children’s stages of development. To build respectful and professional relationships with adults it’s important that you show them you’re approachable. Give support to adults as and when it is required. Demonstrate your listening skills and positive behaviour to them. Show commitment and respect. Don’t gossip about work colleagues and respond politely. When communicating with adults it’s important to address them by their preferred title (name) this shows that you’re respectful.

1.2 Describe with examples how to behave appropriately for a children or young person’s stage of development. When working in a school it’s important to behave appropriately for a children or young person’s stage of development for example: ·Being enthusiastic when talking to the children

·If a child is upset or has fallen over ask them if they are ok and where they have hurt ·When talking to the children it important to make eye contact and smile at them so they don’t feel scared ·Listen to the child without interrupting them or shouting, this could make them upset 1.3 Describe how to deal with disagreements between young people and children. In my setting at Brynteg C.P School I have dealt with a disagreement between a group of children. When I seen the group of children falling out I went to sort the situation out quickly. For example, whilst at playtime I saw a group of children fighting over a scooter I went over and asked what the situation was and they said that a child wasn’t sharing the scooter.
