The word ‘immigration’ is itself a vague term since who can be fallen into its domain is a Gordian knot question. In general, it refers to the long term residence of people in a land other than the one in which they were born (Sullivan 1996). There is no clear demarcation active between pair words, such as ‘long-short’; ‘hot-cold’. Furthermore, it is not always the case a longer stay would give someone migrant status. For example, an international student who is pursuing post doctoral degree in the US after completing his undergraduate, Master degree, and PhD degree in 11 successive years is still considered a non-immigrant, whereas a person lives only one month or below under family sponsor category can be viewed as immigrant.
