Chapter 1:No-Kill Shelters and How they Work

No-kill shelters are good with animals and have a policy to not kill animals. Animals are simply euthanized (Killed)because no one will adopt them or that there is no room in the shelter. The definition of euthanized is to kill a human or animal (In this case an animal) painlessly because of an incurable sickness according to dictionary.com. “Adopt and Kill” is the policy for kill shelters and has lasted for 100 years leaving countless animals to die. No kill shelters implement programs such as the “no-kill equation. These programs help with providing the community with volunteers that can help care for the animals. Other ways the volunteers can help is with partnerships with rescue groups so …show more content…
Animal abusement is when people hurt animals on purpose. One form of animal abusement is dogfighting. Dogfighting is a gambling sport where two trained and bred dogs, fight to the death in a dirt with surrounding walls of wood. Over 16,000 dogs die per year from dog fighting only. Results can be severe bruising, deep puncture wounds and broken bones says humanesociety.org. Dogs often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration. One former dogfighter said “Miss Rufus spent most of the rest of the fight on her back and Bandit broke her other front leg high up in the shoulder, as well as one of her back legs, in the knee joint. The only leg she didn’t break she chewed all to h*ll. She had literally scalped Miss Rufus, tearing a big chunk of skin off the top of her head alongside one ear." according to humanesociety.org. Also children are present to these fights which is a bad influence to those kids and tells them that it is okay to abuse animals. Illegal drugs and firearms are found being sold at these events and even homicide is happening at these events. Dogs who are training for these fights are baited on running on a treadmill with an animal in a cage, some ears cut off (For other animals to not latch on) , dogs are injected with steroids, and food is injected with roach poison (A way to kill cockroaches) to make him taste
