Nikki Turner's Riding Dirty On I-95
“Riding Dirty on I-95 is a hip-hop/urban fiction book by the author Nikki Turner who speaks on and tells a story of a girl whose life changes in a blink of an eye. This book is three hundred five pages of emotionally seeking struggles of a young girl. Published and edited by Atlantic Book Company and released in 2008, Nikki turner has also released 7 other books over the years as well. I chose to read this book because of the triggering story line and from reading another book of hers in the past and falling in love with it. I Like Nikki Turner not only because she comes from a more cultural view but also because she doesn’t sugar coat or have much of a filter on her stories which to me keeps things more open and honest as well as keeping me willing …show more content…
I liked this book mainly because of how different it was compared to my lifestyle and how entertaining it was. Nikki turner didn’t really sugar coat much so I felt I was watching a movie and saw it for what it truly was. Like anyone’s guilty pleasure we all like reality television and it kind of reminded me of just that with fights and drama. The books good points that were how certain events that happen in one’s life good or bad really do shape a person into who they become. Teaching me to not be ashamed of what happens and to only use that circumstance as a motivation of some kind. For anyone that is interested in a gritty, suspenseful, and eye bulging book that keeps you wondering what’s next I would definably recommend this book to that someone willing to take a

My personal opinion of this book is that it's really good because it gives you a chance to see how people feel during their capturing and becoming a slave. As well as their journey to freedom, from the eyes of a teenager. Many of Sharon Draper’s book are like that. Shes able to connect with her teenage audience which is great. Another thing about the book is that it is a book that gives you a chance to see the effect that being a slave has on a person because it really changes you. That was something seen with Besa near the end of the…

I found the book It Could Happen to Anyone, Why Battered Women Stay interesting to read. At first it was difficult to read, because of the title I was concerned what kind of material was going to be in the book. I was interested to find out why battered women stay in an abusive relationship. I liked reading the case studies as it gave me great insight of the situation. The case studies also made me understand the situation in more detail. I enjoyed having a breakdown of sections in the chapters. The book was at times difficult to read, because of the content involved. I appreciated reading the book since I had a more clear understanding of the content since some topics where discussed in class.…

I chose this book on many accounts not the least of those being that I heard everyone talking about it in class. I also was intrigued about this book based upon the synopsis that I read in wikipedia. Which explained it well enough to catch my eye and investigate the story to see if I liked which ultimately I had a fine time reading it. I also enjoy learning about people who started from near nothing and made something of themselves. In this case it was a bumpy road, but it was interesting none the less. It was definitely educational for a lack of better words.…

I have developed an emotional attachment to this book. The novel makes you feel for the main character, Anise. The whole story is very realistic. The author portrays the life of an anorexic and self- mutilating teenager, extremely well. When reading the content that lied within the novel I almost didn’t want this book to be realistic as it was, because it hurts to know that there are people in this world who are going through similar situations. The writing style in this book was unique and incomparable to any that I have ever read before; it was choppy, and not very descriptive. However, one will notice that the author made up for the lack of description, by putting a tremendous amount of effort into explaining the emotions of the character, so that everything said was very effective. I was also quite fond of the way the story was told through limited omniscient and omniscient points of view. You would develop a more personal connection with the main character, and understand her better by reading what she wrote in her journal. This book is a great read focused on anorexia, self-esteem, and depression. It will leave an impression on you. The novel is one that will not be easily forgotten, and most definitely will be hard to put it down once you have started. I recommend this book for both girls and boys over the age of 14. I don't think that anyone younger than 14 should read this…

I would definitely recommend this book to most girls. If you like characters that go through challenges, face reality and love then this is one you should read. The fact that it involves a death and family related problems will draw you in. The love story here is different and it gives you hope when your feeling down. My favorite part of the book is when Macy realizes that she has become a new person and she finally breaks out of her shell to prove her new self. My least favorite part must have been when her mother didn’t keep Macys promise and she ignored her and acted like she wasn’t there. The way Sarah Dessen wrote this was with the idea of being “perfect”, and what that does and doesn’t mean. She was also interested in seeing a character go through a loss, and how that affected the way she viewed the world.…

When I first started this novel, I was like are you serious, but when I started I slowly got drawn into it. And if you read this novel, I am sure that the storyline will keep you so mesmerised and engaged in the story due to its boundless description that you would feel as if you are actually taking a part in the story and watching every scene take place. Trust me, it is that good. Besides, it will teach you life lessons and show how we take somethings for granted. We are so lucky that we live in this developed society, but back there, where simple rights of men and women are stolen, are they lucky enough?…

I really liked this book for many reasons. First of all, this book was really easy to get into. I found wanting to just read this book instead of doing my everyday activities. I was quite sad when it ended. This book is about an average girl named Macy who lives with her mom. Her dad died and Macy, her mom, and her sister never really healthfully grieved about it. Macy has isolated herself from her friends and has devoted all her time to what she thought was her perfect boyfriend, Jason. Jason was very smart, organized, and nearly perfect. When her boyfriend leaves for camp and eventually puts their relationship on hold, Macy finds time for something new. She takes a part time job for a catering company with a bunch of crazy people that Macy isn't used to. She likes the freedom and the feeling of not trying to be perfect around them. Macy finds herself making great friends from the catering company and starts falling for one of her co-workers, Wes. She finally becomes the happy person she used to be before her father‘s death. Macy's mom doesn't like the change in her and she doesn't like her new friends or her new job. Eventually they all give in and once they grieve over their fathers death, they get past it and move on happily with life like their father would have wanted. Macy learns that the truth about forever isn't trying to be perfect, its about living your life. This book had a great storyline, I enjoyed it a lot, and I could relate.…
