Even in the midst of the world’s economic crunch the “Nike” Company still manage to spend millions to billions of dollars on advertisement. The field of advertisement is ever-changing whether it is the graphics or the most high power technology to catch the consumer’s eye.

The Nike Company was founded by William J. Bowerman and Philip H. Knight on January 25, 1964 and generated $18.627 billion in revenue in 2008. Nike is a German-based sports apparel manufacturer which consists of Reebok Sportswear Company; Taylor made Adidas-golf Company, and Rockport. Besides sports footwear, the company also produces other products such as bags, shirts, watches, eyewear and other sports and clothing related goods. The company is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and the second biggest sportswear manufacturer in the world, after its U.S. rival Nike. Personally, I feel that the reason behind Nike’s great success would be because of their extensive technique of advertisement. Also what makes Nike a great success is because they market their own products. From shoes to sportswear, equipment, and accessories Nike has always been a very profitable marketing and advertisement company.

One element of advertisement that Nike uses is the powerful celebrities to market their products. For example, you have the greatest basketball player of all time, who is Michael Jordan, who is constantly creating the famous Nike Air Jordan’s, which usually cost between $150.00 - $175.00 dollars per pair. Michael Jordan uses the power of showing of his basketball skills in his shoes to make mostly teenage boys feel that if Michael can play like that in those shoes then they can too. Other powerful and successful celebrities that had made Nike a huge success also in advertisement are the famous golfer Tiger Wood, Venus and Serena William, the two greatest tennis players, and the Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.
