I enjoyed reading Night by Elie Wiesel because it takes a deeper look into what happened in the Holocaust during World War II. Since the novel is a personal story, we really get to see the actual events that happened within the Holocaust. We get a close up view of the traumatizing events. During the novel, the author tells the story of how his family was separated and never reunited. This really shows the reader how you should never take life for granted. One day you are alive, the next you could be dead. Everyone has been close to someone who has passed away, but during the Holocaust, every Jew lost a family member or close friend, and some people lost everyone. It helps to show you that life can change in a blink of an eye. This helped me to appreciate my life more. Also, this story shows how people can change when they are put into different circumstances. When you are put in a situation where your survival is at risk, you start to focus on yourself. We see this multiple times throughout the story. Near the start, when the Jews are put into cattle cars for transportation to the concentration camps, a Jewish lady was screaming “fire” continuously. The other Jews beat her in front of her son in order to get her to be quiet. They didn't want to get in trouble for her screaming. Another example is in the middle of the story when Elizer's attitude starts to change towards his father and his faith. He is concentrating at that moment on his own survival, rather than Idek's treatment of his father. His father's inability to dodge a beating from Idek only makes Elizer angry at his father. Elizer's religion rebellion intensifies at this point and he can't find a reason to bless God anymore. Where as at the beginning of the story Elizer lived for God. A third example of changing relationships and attitudes is when the Rabbi's son abandons his father. When the son believes that his father won't survive, he moves to protect himself by running ahead during the evacuation as opposed to waiting for his father. I enjoyed reading this story because of the examination of morals and the different point of view on the Holocaust, which really makes the story interesting and keeps the reader intrigued in the story.

Night’ illustrates the horrifying conditions that the Jews suffered while being at the hands of the Nazi’s. While Wiesel and his family along with thousands of Jewish people were under the control of the Germans in the act to exterminate all of the Jews. It all began for Elie’s family at the start, when they were put into ghettos. The ghettos were a part of town that had been fenced off and the Jews were made to stay there until there had been taken to the concentration camps.
