Night Hoops Book Report

Night Hoops, the book, is written by an author who includes sports in all of his published books. Carl Deuker is the author of Night Hoops. Carl Dueker is one of my most favorite authors, and I will continue to read his published books. In this book there are many themes such as; teamwork, dedication and friendship. Nick Abbott, the main character in the book is a sophomore in high school. He has a passion for basketball and deeply loves this sport with hard fought blood, sweat and tears. In my opinion, he isn't the most fit bodywise for basketball, but his hard work and athletic skills on the court take account for his size. In the beginning, his dad places Nick in the shadow his older brother, Scott. Scott doesn’t even like basketball, but he is too afraid to tell his father. Instead of playing basketball, he likes to play his trumpet instead. “You could be good, Scott. You could be very, very good” (Deuker 15). Nick is the point guard on the Bothell High School basketball team. His role on the team is to mainly run the show. The parents of Nick get divorced early in this book and that has an affect on him throughout the story. Nick is a very caring and young man in Night Hoops. In Night Hoops, teamwork was a major role. Night Hoops has many occasions involving team work. Nick and his father work together in their backyard on Nick’s basketball skills everyday after school. He would have Nick do plenty of drills, involving shooting, dribbling, fundamentals, and etc.. Nick’s dad was hard on him and pushed him extremely hard every day. He was a past college basketball player so he had some kind of experience and knowledge about the game of basketball. Eventually, that would all change because Nick’s father and mother would end up getting a divorce. So, Nick would have to work alone on his court in his
