nice people
here is many ways for someone to act of kindness for someone else. My act of kindness to someone was when I was in high school and told a freshman girl the way to the lunch room. She was lost and asked me during the passing period in the hallway, so i was nice enough to show her the way to the lunch room. I started talking to her to make her feel better and try to clam her down because i saw she was having a really bad day, since it was her first day of high school, everyone knows the first day of high school is very confusing and difficult for someone new. many students choose not to help freshman's because they find it funny to make the first day of high school difficult for them, many people call it a tradition to make freshman's first day here is many ways for someone to act of kindness for someone else. Whether if it’s by saying "please" or "thank you", recycling a soda, or just paying someone a compliment, these forms of kindness are what unify our community and inspire us to be good citizens. Did having straight A's and immense power in the class rankings define success? No, I believe that connecting with your peers, teachers, even the cafeteria staff was the true definition of success because by socializing within your society you develop a new mindset on how you look at life. One of my priorities is to not only excel in my academics but become a servant leader who spreads kindness and empowers others to reach their full…

Beforehand, I was the kid that never initiated conversations and frankly, meeting new people made me uncomfortable. However, as an active member of my community, my shell of awkwardness and seclusiveness slowly broke down with every service event that I was a part of. I waited for the first time in Freshman year during a charity dinner and the gratitude I received back was quite astounding to me. They all shook my hand, had bright smiles, and one man specifically thanked me for making his night. While my guests experienced joy through my waiting, I experienced likewise from their response. Instead of a risk for an embarrassing situation, I realized that helping people brought me genuine…

like helping other students when they don't understand something like when you met kids who would soon be good friends to you they came from different places and did not understand english but you still tried to help them despite of then not understanding you and you helped many more like when that third grader fell and scraped there knee and nobody had noticed or where refusing to help you rushed over and helped them to a teacher and to the nurse's office or when that second grader was crying you went over and conferted them giving them the comfort that they…

“Please, thank you, no mam, and no sir”, are just some common terms that seemed to have vanished from conversations of daily living. Rudeness once was frowned upon but in today’s time, it has become usual. It seems as though no one cares about the cause and effect of their uncivility. Something as simple as showing appreciation for someone’s kind gesture should not be hard to do. For example if a person holds open the door for you, in return, the person should be thanked. According to a study lead by Glenn Fox, Ph.D., a psychology researcher at University of Southern California, only 19% of 194 strangers thanked the person holding the door. Those numbers shows how distraught society…

    Nice People Finish Last

“Who do you have to kill to get a beer around here?” If you want something, you have to be loud and aggressive about it. I agree with the saying “Nice people finish last” because being too nice can negatively affect a person’s career, relationship they’re in, and sports they play. People might think that being nice is a good thing but at time a person needs to be aggressive if he or she wants to advance.…

The act of kindness that I preformed recently happened in early August; I was at the grocery store and saw a family of four shopping; I noticed their cart had very little food and the mother kept putting food back that the kids were asking for; I started a conversation with her about the economy and how tough it’s getting for everyone. As we talked I could see her stress levels rise; I made her aware of various government and state resources that I was certain she would qualify for. The mother began to tell me that she has applied for those resources but has never heard anything back from the agency; I gave her my number and told her to give me a call and I would do my best to advocate for her. I then bought her groceries and told her not to worry about it. Part of my job at Partners in Housing is to help advocate for individuals who need specific resources but are not certain how to go about applying for them; the woman called the next day and I began the process of advocating for her. When I checked up on her, I found out she had received food assistance,…

I am who I am today because of my experiences. Great or bad, they shaped me. Having two most amazing parents who always encouraged me and reminded me daily that I am defined to do great things made me believe that all great things are possible. Having a mom who taught me the importance of being kind and holding doors for any and all the young ladies whether I was dating them or not is the reason I will teach the young kids in the future under my leadership to do the same. I find myself relaying messages of kindness and encouraging others to be kind to one another daily as a result of this experience. One of my greatest experiences in life is having the opportunity to engage in Random Acts of Kindness with my family, faculty, students, and witness the smiles of the beneficiaries of our kindness. My mother, who is the queen of paying it forward, was so correct when she said, “People remember you when you are kind!”…

Throughout my hectic high school years I have also grown a lot personally and socially. As a freshman I was one of the shy people that sat in the back of the library everyday. I didn’t communicate much sense I didn’t know anyone that well, but now that I am a senior I am far from shy. High school has showed me that you have to keep positive people around you no matter what because they’ll always be somebody negative around that wants to bring you down mentally telling you can’t, or you’ll never succeed. Everything that I’ve been told positively I will take it into consideration and apply it to my life.…

Back in fifth grade my house had caught fire. It was one of the scariest things in my life. As a fifth grader, dolls and going outside to play soccer were the things I held most sacred. This one event changed my entire outlook on life and showed me what was truly important in my life: my family. When I moved into a hotel for months it made me realize, trivial things like clothes and toys aren’t what makes a home your home it’s the people that are with you through it all. Also, the enormous support we got from the community helped me understand the true meaning of giving. Although this happened to me at a young age, the lessons still ring true today. I never wanted anyone to feel like they were alone and helpless, so every time an opportunity presents itself I feel the need to help. Whenever faced with a difficult decision or see someone in need I look back on this and it reminds me to place myself in their shoes and do whatever I can to help.…

The way that I talk to people today has gotten me very far in life. Taking the time to talk to your elders, classmates, friends, and parents in a respectuful manner can make or break a person. For example, are you going to go up to your boss and say, "Why the hell can't I get Friday off for work?" or would you say, "Hey boss would it be possible to please get Friday off, I have something going on." It's the little things in life like that, that people are going to remember you as. There is one specific time that I remeber, when I was at a restaurant with my family in Rapid City a couple years ago, I held the door open for a lady. She said thank you, you are such a nice young lady. Later on I met that same lady in the food line and I simply let her go in front of me and you could just see the smile on her face. When I sat back down at the table that my family was at, that lady came over to the table and said to my mom, "your daughter is one of the most respectful young lady's I have ever met." Things like that make you look so good as an individual. Another example, a couple of my friends say "man"…

    To Do or Not

I believe that kindness is one of the most important human characteristics. It is not that hard to say a simple 'thank you', and yet it can really change the outlook of someone else's day. My sister once told me “It takes more muscles to frown than to smile.” I have noticed that just being polite to the people around you can really make the atmosphere around you more positive. I can think of a lot of examples of when being polite has made things a little smoother, including one at the doctor's office. As I was heading to my appointment at the doctor's office, I entered an elevator to go to the third floor where my doctor's office is located. As I entered the elevator I pressed the button and waited for the door to close. I was running a few minutes late and I was a little concerned that I would not make my appointment in time. I noticed an old man enter the building and slowly make his way to the elevator. Instead of allowing the elevator door to close on the old mans shrivled body I generously steped in and help the old man out instead of turning my head and proceding to my much anticipated appointment. I belive that any act of kindness doesn’t go unnoticed “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” this is a quote by Aesop a very inspirational author who has influenced my life by trying to help others out. So everyday you should try and do atleast one act of kindness in hope that that person will pass it on so I would like to share a very inspirational quote “Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end” (Scott…

I will also happily be anyone’s friend, whether they are new or old to this school.…
