BIAS AGAINST ISLAM IN THE NEWS 2

Faith has caused clashes around the world for thousands of years so this is not a new problem just an ongoing one and one that American journalists do not do a good job of reporting on in an unbiased manner but consistently portray the Islamic faith unfavorably and in a biased manner as Muslims violent actions are vilified while violence against them by
Christians is seen as retaliation and justified..
The headline as well as the first sentence of the article by Ashish Kumar Sen concerning the plight of Syrians is framed in such a way that the reader is led to view the
Islamic faith in general and the Clerics specifically through a negative lens. Under the headline Clerics permitting desperate Syrians to eat cats, dogs, the first sentence reads
“Syria’s civil war has become so dire that some Islamic clerics have permitted starving
Syrians to eat cats and dogs.” Repeatedly saying that Syrians are now allowed by their religious leaders to consume cats and dogs is meant to sensationalize. Nowhere in the article does it mention that donkeys as well as animals killed by bombs are also now permitted, both of which were previously forbidden to consume by Islam. It then goes on to say that the ruling coincides with the Muslim holiday Eid al Adha which is a festival marked by lavish feasts .I can only assume this was mentioned to cause the reader to think that because the

A 43 year old woman had a mass in her right thigh for approximately one month before she went to her doctor. The doctor gave her an examination and found the mass to be firm, painless, and stationary. He then followed up with ultrasound and MRI testing. The results reveled the size shape and location of the mass. Surgery was scheduled to remove the mass. When it was dissected a gel like substance spilled out indicating a ganglion cyst. They did a microscopic examination of the cyst and it showed a dense fibrous wall.…

    * In recent years, the number of filibusters has risen dramatically. According to the Democrats, Republicans launched more than 385 filibusters (that forced cloture votes) since 2007. That's compared to only 49 cloture votes from 1919 to 1970. After 1970, the number started to rise - perhaps prompting the 1975 rule change - until the number really jumped in the mid-2000s.…

When something is reported in a sensational manner it typically causes a media frenzy. When this happens the information is not always correct. The media reports can cause the public to panic or rally together. This type of reporting is not limited to just the news reports. It can be anything that is reported, from an attack to news in the medical fields. It can be easier for reporters to report on superficial controversies then to research more in depth and substantive problems. The more complex problems will be sacrificed in order to make it more gripping.(David F. Ransohoff, 2001)…

Islam is one of three abrahamic religions, alongside christianity, and judaism. Christianity and judaism are arguably the most similar religions to islam, and have similarly spread into western culture from their middle eastern and eurpean origins. Throughout the ages, each have had their drops in reputation, sectarian wars, and misunderstandings, which still carry on strongly today. With today's media however, being more widespread, easily accessible, sporadically based and cheaper than ever to use, any media target will get hit much harder than a target hit even just a decade ago. Since September 11, the muslim population has been in the spotlight by media outlets, and where reporting is, under a journalists code of conduct, supposed to be fair and balanced, it is qestionable why the vast majority of reports about islam and any muslim activities have been negative.…

The scientific report entitled Highchair Philosophers; the impact of seating context-dependent exploration on children’s naming bias was published in the Developmental Science in 2013. The study focused on how children learn to identify the properties of solid and nonsolid foods using shape and material biases.
