During October 2, 2002 a series of murders started to happen around Washington D.C area, as well as in the Baltimore area. Five shootings attacks occurred in a fifteen hours period, which continued on for another three weeks. People were surrounded by fear and authorities did not have any clues of what or why these shootings were happening. Different messages and signs were left at the scene of the crime by the killer, but still nothing solid enough to have any suspects. The shootings took places in different establishments like, gas stations, restaurants, super markets, and even near schools. Victims were selected at random, and there was not a specific gender, age group, or even an ethnicity background that was being targeted. It was determined by investigators that the killings always occurred near highways in order for the shooter to have an easy access to an escape route. The weapon of choice used by D.C Sniper was a Bushmaster XM-15 semiautomatic .223 caliber rifle. There were not any witnesses that could offer any solid description or any information. The police set up hotlines so citizens could report any suspicious activity, as well as a mailbox to receive any tips via mail. However, not enough information was gathered ( FBI, 2007).…

None of these innocent people could have or would have ever imagined that this simple night out would end it warm blood and wet tears. Since the inception of firearms, people have been wielding all types of arms and ammunitions against each other in order to injure or kill their opponent. In the modern world, this violence is unwarranted and goes against everything society stands for. Nowhere else is gun violence most prevalent than in the United States of America. Because of the Constitution, Americans have had the right to bear arms since 1776. When the Constitution was drafted, the term “arms” meant nothing more than a musket or perhaps small one-shot pistol. However, as arms and ammunition have evolved much like any other technology, their capacity to accurately kill humans has increased. So much so that one firearm can be used to kill many people…

In today's times, firearm viciousness is starting a civil argument and discussion on the best way to control weapon brutality. All through the nation, a great many laws and directions have been made to help in the control of weapons. Through much study, the firearm laws and controls set up have almost no impact on the quantity of weapon related wounds and deaths. All the more should be done to build up a successful approach to control weapon brutality. An author claims, “At the federal level, one of the measures that was considered in the post-Newtown era was a revival of the 1994 federal ban on assault weapons. This law expired in 2004” (Gius 7). Shootings in the United States have turned into an immoderate illicit relationship. The assessed expense could be in the billions every year. Four teens are lucky to have survived a December 26 car crash. The teens were traveling along Route 46 when the driver and front seat passenger started fooling around. The passenger grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. The car slid on the grass, struck two snow plow blades, and ultimately came to a stop between two parked vehicles. Although all four occupants of the vehicle complained of pain, none of them were hurt enough to seek medical attention. While these four teens survived this crash with only minor injuries, others in similar situations are not always as lucky. If you are the parent of a teenage driver, be sure to discuss safety driving practices with your teen.…

When it comes to violence, there is one type of violence I think is skyrocketing out of control in Chicago: Gun violence. As residents and I believe we all can agree that it is shame that for the past 5 years or so, gun violence has taken such a toll. Especially, if you were born and raised here. I remember growing when gun violence was not a huge concern.…

Chicago has earned a lot of negative attention in recent years earning the infamous nickname “Chiraq” due to the high rate of gun violence. In 2014, thus far it has been 1,775 reported shootings in Chicago in which 252 were fatal. That is extremely high given the fact that the year isn’t over. Today is September 8th; which also means this is the 251st day in the year. That means someone, on average, was shot and killed every day of the year in Chicago. Those statistics do not even include non-gun related homicides. If I was to include those extra 48 homicides, the average deaths per day would be 1.2. If homicides were to continue at that rate, it could possibly be 436 murders by the end of the year. These numbers are very disturbing and hopefully something is done about that.…

Since 1982, at least sixty-two mass shootings have occurred, thirty-two of them since 2006. (Aronsen). Jared Loughner was sentenced to life in prison after shooting nineteen people in January of 2011. Last July, fifty-eight people were shot and twelve killed while watching the new Batman movie in a theater in Colorado. In December, twenty-six people were murdered, including twenty first-graders, in a Connecticut elementary school (Follman). The issue of gun violence only becomes relevant after a horrific event such as these, then fades from public concern after about two weeks. The number of injuries and murders using guns in the United States is a large number, which can hopefully be lowered by implementing statewide, or even nationwide gun buyback programs, stricter carrying permit laws, and making it harder for the mentally unstable and convicted felons to legally obtain guns.…
