Before recounting the history of Sam Hinkie, I must first admit that I am an avid Philadelphia 76ers fan, and I am going to be naturally biased. However, as Patricia Nelson Limerick noted in her historical piece of writing, there will always be a writer and a reader. Depending on who the writer and reader is (and other factors such as the past, the environment, etc.) will drastically alter the emotional effect. Along with my personal experience and a few first person accounts of Sam Hinkie, I will attempt to provide a brief – albeit personalized – history of the man who has the money and power to control a professional sports organization with a “push of a button.” Unlike Patricia Nelson Limerick, I am attempting to debrief my reader to my personal biases (and that of my first person sources). Everything I utilize from statistics to factual occurrences will be entirely truthful and nonetheless provide an entirely personal account and history of Sam Hinkie. It will not only show him as the man who makes front office decisions, but the path he traveled down to arrive at his current position and what makes him different than the normal general manager in the NBA. His decisions and the ultimate results could change the business of sports entirely and that is what makes his decision-making process so interesting.…

In an article entitled "Playing With Fire: A NBA Lockout Could Leave Fans Out in the Cold," a Phoenix Suns fan, Phil Lester, discusses the NBA lockout and how much money he spends on game nights. Phil says that "he can easily spend between $50-$100 on a night when the Suns are in town, counting dinner before the game, then some snacks and a couple of adult beverages during it. And that doesn 't include the money spent on the tickets." Without the NBA, the money usually spent by fans will go unspent, affecting businesses, workers, and the economy as a whole.…

The New York Islanders hold a stronger financial resource capability than many of their competitors, such as Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets, which gives them a competitive advantage. With the likely hood of the New York Islanders enduring another venue change, their financial status gives them options and leeway in making this difficult decision, provided the opportunity arises. Also, there is $72 million equated towards player expenses, this helps with athletic performance because external expenses are not a strain on the athletes as they are covered and training becomes the number one priority (Forbes, 2016). This is important because high performance, translates to wins, which means more fans, in turn equals to more monetary assists. The also run a fairly high budget in regards to their community outreach programs, which is also a marketing ploy in a sense. They have community programs, player programs and their own foundation called “Islanders Children Foundation.” This is called a partnership; this is important because it can draw a new audience and raise the profile for the…

Exposure is an important piece of the puzzle in pushing for equality, not only in the world of basketball, but the world of sports as a whole. Although, the WNBA is steadily climbing as the Forbes list reported “the league welcomed its current president, Laurel J. Richie, known for her marketing acumen, and introduced Boost Mobile as a marquee marketing partner. In 2012, the draft moved to ESPN’s headquarters. In 2013, the WNBA launched a new brand identity, extended its television partnership with ESPN, the "3 To See" rookies gained mainstream attention, and season 17 ended with record growth.” (Glass) The WNBA may not be on the same financial level or branding level as the NBA currently, but the league is now equipped with franchise owners…

Secondly, the best team always wins the championship. In the National Football League, a team can sneak into the playoffs after winning approximately half of their regular season games, catch a couple of somewhat lucky breaks, and make it all the way to the Super Bowl. With a few more lucky breaks, they can win the Super Bowl. While this unpredictable parity is usually lauded as one of the best things about the NFL, it’s completely unfair, completely wrong, and easily one of my least favorite things about the league. However, with the NBA's best-of-seven game playoff series format, the NBA ensures that stunts the NFL pull doesn’t occur. The best teams, the teams most deserving of winning, usually win. If you want to win in the NBA playoffs, you have to actually go and get better. You can’t rely on bad weather or lucky breaks to help your cause.…

I think the best NBA team is the Boston Celtics because they’re good. Furthermore, the Boston Celtics also have the most NBA championships in the league. The Boston Celtics had one of the best players to ever play the game named Bill Russell he was only six, eight compared to a regular NBA center who was about six eleven through seven foot, he was one of the best defensive players back then, he also had a really high vertical. Some might argue that the Boston Celtics aren't the best team that ever played because the people who say this nonsense are probably L.A Lakers fans and the L.A Lakers have the second most championships in the league. However, I think that they are the best, they have the most NBA championships in the league still today…

Cuban's whatever-it-takes attitude and commitment to winning has everyone's attention. From his first introduction to the team to the end of his first season as owner, the players responded with a 31-19 record, including a 9-1 mark in April 2000. In addition to hiring special coaches for offense, defense and shooting, Cuban has promised to do everything in his power to improve the team. This goal was achieved as the club finished the 2000-01 season with a 53-29 record en route to their first playoff appearance in 11 years where they became just the sixth team in NBA history to be down 0-2 and come back to win a…
