Griffin argues that everyone in society is a part of a larger matrix; that if we had been born to a different family, in a different time period, or to a different world, we would not be the same people we are today. Throughout her essay, Griffin ties together four seemingly separate people through their fears and secrets. Secrets are very powerful, in that just one secret can impact the lives of many, even if the person keeping the secret has no intentions of hurting anybody or changing the lives of others. While on the other hand, some people keep secrets to protect themselves and do not mind the pain it causes others. No matter how big the secret is, all secrets have penalties and consequences.…

I recently had the chance to interview the author of Pretty Little Liars, Sara Shepard. This book is a part of a series that has been made into a hit TV show on ABC Family. It portrays four best friends who deal with one of their best friend’s disappearance who is later found dead. Together they all try to figure out who the killer is while they receive anonymous text messages and emails from “A.” Whoever is behind “A” knows all of the girls’ secrets and uses them as blackmail. Shepard relates this story to her imagination and games from when she and her sister were young. She also relates it to similar experiences and people from when she was in high school. Luckily enough, I was able to be one of the first ones to question Shepard about her new successful book, Pretty Little Liars.…

Charles Caleb Colton stated in his collection of anecdotes Lacon, “It is easier to pretend to be what you are not, than to hide what you really are; he that can accomplish both, has little to learn in hypocrisy.” People show the world one side of their face, the face they wish to represent them themselves and how they want other to see them, and then there’s the part of them no one can see but god. It’s the part of them they don’t realize exists because they don’t want to be discerned. Hawthrone introduces the topic of hypocrisy with the use of characterization which is a literacy element the author uses to develop characters and create images of the characters for the audience. The topics of hypocrisy are among the few topics presented…

I do not think that Victor Kelleher is an exceptional thriller writer. However I do agree to the statement which says that “Del-Del grips like a vice and holds the reader taut, on a nerves edge, until the final page. Victor Kelleher is a very talented thriller writer, the technique where he drops small clues in the text as to a possible ending is one to be admired and his fantastic techniques which he uses is the best thing about Del-Del, Unfortunately Kelleher did not show his greatest work in this narrative. His technique where he dropped fake trails did not create anticipation like he had hoped for the reason that he overused this technique too much. The ending was also a tad lame and also would have perturbed the reader. We also found that the shifting of genre bewildered the reader and was too big a risk for such a small book.…

One thing James Dashner is good at is Storytelling. Making up this world and coming up with all the plot twists, he's a very talented writer. He tends to write creating suspense, making the next plot twist come at the right moment and right time, making you want to go on to the next chapter. James made it literally impossible for me to try and figure out what was going to happen. Like many of the characters in the book, I had no idea who I could trust or believe. Some of the plot twists and answers some things I questioned, but overall it was a fast-paced tale that easily drew me in, and it will draw you in too that’s why I recommend this book to everyone.…

The action in this book is very suspenseful. For example, in one chapter the main character is alone in her deserted coffee shop, while her grandfather is asleep upstairs. Two adult thieves came in and Mattie hid. They looked around and shoved many of her special family heirlooms and other items into their big sacks. During this, one thieve almost cuts her with her grandfather's sword from the war. She comes out of hiding and runs. They catch her and tie her up. Her slap her to try and get her to spill were the coffee shop earnings are hidden. Her grandfather awakes and comes downstairs with a gun. He threatens to shoot and does, but the thieves dodge the bullet. Grandfather is thrown to the ground because of the force of the shot. One thieve runs away and the other goes and beats grandfather up. While this is going on, Mattie grabs her grandfather's sword and cuts the thieve on his shoulder. He cries out in pain and runs toward the door as Mattie chases after him, shouting some foul words the author unmentioned. After running a few blocks, she figured the thieves were long gone and rushed back to the coffee shop. To me, this scene was one of the most intense out of the whole book. I think it really does show how powerful this book is and it is packed with a lot of suspense. The interactions between the characters also made this book compelling.…
