The Development of a Computer Network for a Health Center
This assignment will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of computer networks.
This assignment is based on the development of a computer network for a health Centre. The network will provide access for medical staff in each treatment room, a number of computers in a medical staff workroom, a computer on the reception desk and computers in an office for Administration Staff.
You are required to design a complete network, which will include all the requirements and also a block diagram of how the network will look like. The following scenario is to be used.
The Scenario
A health center provides health care services to the local community. The center has eight treatment rooms where doctors and nurses treat patients, one medical staff office where medical staff carry out their own administration duties, one administration staff office where secretaries and managers carry out their duties and a waiting room with a reception desk that is permanently staffed. The center is located in one single storey building and all treatment rooms and offices are located on one long corridor that runs from the waiting room.
The health center is installing a computer network for use by staff only.
Each treatment room requires one computer, for use by medical staff only, linked to the main server located in the server room in one of the corners which also works like a proxy server for Internet connectivity. This computer in every room will be used for recording the outcomes of any medical treatment, viewing patient records and will also link to the country’s health service extranet via the server.
The center will have one medical staff office stocked with 10 computers, which will be linked to the center’s own network and the Internet, and will allow access to the country’s health service extranet through the server. These computers will also have standard office software for administration work.
The center will also have one administration staff office

The wireless access point allows for external and internal connections but does not distinguish between employees and customers. There is only one server for the entire company and there are no security separations within the network. The network does not have any firewall to prevent access from outside and a single switch moderates all internal connections. The use of personal computers is allowed with unmonitored connections to the system. The printer is connected directly to the network.…

As part of the multidisciplinary team tasked with investigating a new computerized management system for the hospital, I have completed some research into the subject. As I looked into the products I asked myself some questions before selecting a product. Namely; how computerized management systems could increase quality of care. Why active nursing involvement in planning, choice, and implementation of the system is important. How handheld devices used by nursing staff can be integrated into the management system for better quality of care. I will discuss the security standards of data and patient confidentiality, including the need for data storage integrity and data backup and recovery and how HIPPA requirements impact the use of the system. How can the new system affect healthcare cost? What benefits these new systems can offer patient care and nursing care delivery. After answering these questions I can make a recommendation on a product that I feel will meet the needs of our hospital.…
