I am a procurement specialist working with Lanxess Inc Sarnia. I am responsible for buying technical and General services for Sarnia site and Energy . I am a Mechanical Engineer with 14 years of experience in procurement. During my carrier , I have been worked for varieties of industries that include Chemical, Mechanical and Electronics. I have experience with procuring Capital equipments for Projects, Raw Material, Packaging, MRO and various General and technical services.

I think negotiation skill work shop was very important work shop for me. Before negotiation skill workshop, I thought it is just a business skill but after work ship I realized that it is much more then business skill. Before negotiation skill workshop I was thinking about negotiation is all about bringing price down, matching delivery dates and getting better price. During the workshop I realized that, I have lot of other strategic skills that I never thought of using for negotiation.At present I am working towards my SCMP designation and completed two modules that include two courses and two work shop.

One of the intense of having SCMP designation is to develop strategic supply chain management skill. I have attended couple of negotiation workshops organized by my employer in past but this was little different as it focus on negotiation skill in general rather then industry specific.

Strength before work shop :

When it comes to strength that I already have, I have 14 years of experience with procurement, So I learn lot of things through experience,

• I am detail oriented. This help me to make the pie bigger.
• I am good at analysis , so this helps me to capture bigger share of the pid
• I am mechanical engineer, this helps me to understand products and service scope and their effect on cost.
• I am good at self assessment. This helps me to evaluate resources I have to help me in negotiation.
• I have good at computer and have excellent data mining skill, this helps me to

    There are many factors that help to create a great and effective negotiator. A negotiator's relative strength is determined by the quality and extent of his/her preparation. The better you understand your interests (why you want what you want); and the better you understand the interests of other parties (why they want what they want), the greater the chance you will be able to reach an desirable solution which leaves the parties feeling as if each has achieved the major portion of their goals. A negotiator's relative strength can be measured by whether people walk away thinking they would be pleased to negotiate again with him/her.
