What is a “distraction”? “Something that amuses or entertains you so that you do not think about problems, work, etc.” Thanks Merriam-Webster. Speech! As my father always says, “Put down your iTrash, and put the dishes in the dishwasher.” There was a time when the human race were cavemen, and they were too busy trying to survive. They had no room for distractions. For them it was literally life death if they didn’t do something right. They had to go and hunt their food. They had to always stay on guard for predators. Why is it that, in today’s society, it’s all we can do to keep from getting distracted? Well, our hunt consists of us going to either a. the pantry, b. the fridge, c. the grocery store, or d. a restaurant, we always have to be on guard for us, mankind, or countries fighting countries, and today we have computers, phones, games, TV, lots of TV, and more. But some people still get their work done. I mean, I had to make the hard decision of writing this speech or utilizing Netflix and the natural human process of naps. Billy Bob almost died, and my pillow is really comfortable. Getting distracted today boils down to a few main

According to Paul Graham, in his article, “Good and Bad Procrastination,” he claims that it is impossible to avoid procrastination because there is always something you could be doing, “No matter what you work on, you’re not working on everything else” (86). Graham talks about three types of procrastination: (a) working on nothing, (b) working on something less important, and (c) working on something more important. He says that the last type is good procrastination. He goes on to describe type-c procrastination as being the “absent-minded professor” who, while thinking about some interesting question, forgets to look where he’s walking, or forgets to shave in the morning or even forgets to eat his breakfast. Graham states that “His mind is absent from the everyday world because it’s hard at work in another” (86). He also says that type-c procrastinators put off working on small stuff to work on big stuff. Graham describes small stuff as: shaving, doing laundry, cleaning the house, writing thank you notes, etc. Basically anything that could be classified as an errand. “Good procrastination is avoiding errands to do real work” (86). Graham also talks about why it pays to put off certain errands such as mowing the…

Humans have an attention span less than that of goldfish. Although there are some benefits to the advanced technology that we have no, the increase of easily accessible technology has had an immense effect on people. The technologies that are readily available, such as laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, and televisions, have become easy distractions to adults and adolescents alike. There are many views as to if this effect is beneficial to the people or not, but there have been many studies conducted showing that it poorly affects people's ability to focus and complete work. Berkman, a Psychologist wrote about various problems we procrastinate. One that caught my attention was that it’s a choice whether to complete an assignment, do something fun or simply nothing. He quotes “When the value of something else outweighs the value of working now.” More clearly students don’t see the value of their homework any better than going out to a party and having fun so they leave homework undone and so something more pleasurable.…

“There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. Procrastination is a habit of putting off a task until a later time what could or should have been done at that time. It’s a tormenting weakness I’m struggling with and it’s keeping me back from being successful. It’s like an virus eating up my body infecting various parts of my life.…

    Why Essays Are Stupid

    • 284 Words

Essays are gay for several reasons. Nobody likes writing them because they aren't fun to do. why do something that's not fun? They also are time consuming and do nothing but make some teacher happy that they kept you busy with such stupid busywork. When's the last time you saw somebody who was not a student write an essay? That's like seeing a flying purple hippo take a dump on a cop car while smoking a blunt. It doesn't happen. There are some people who get off on writing essays, definately not anyone in the right mind, but usually some little queer in the closet who can't make friends and sucks dick for coke. Of course they never tell anybody about it, but rumor has it that it still goes on behind closed doors. You'd be amazed at the secret lives nerds leave, they are some strange people. Teachers have good intentions, but are still pretty dumb. not quite as dumb as police officer, but equally ignorant. Ever notice how tv is nothing like real life, even though it's supposed to reflect it? I always thought that they were supposed to be similar, but I was usually stoned at the time. They obviously spice up TV because life is too boring to make a tv show of. And when they do, it's called real world. That show was stupider than hell, I couldn't believe, still don't believe that a show like that could be successfull. So in conclusion, that is why essays are gay, and so are teachers. May hippos shit on cop cars and spark it all night long. peace out…

Others do it because they just honestly hate doing their work. Im also a victim of that as well. What is the actual definition of procrastination? The answer is, procrastination is the act of postponing or putting off until a later date. Dr. Perry himself was a self hating procrastinator until finally it occurred to Perry that he wasn’t exactly entirely that lazy. When Mr. Perry wasn’t grading his papers, he wasn’t sitting down, sometimes he would sharpen his pencils, or he would play games with the other kids there. So, one time in your life you probably will procrastinate, and you wouldn’t know…
