Sucralose is a chlorinated sugar that is chemically changing the structure of the sugar molecules by substituting three chlorine atoms for three hydroxyl group to yield 1,6-dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-BETA-D-fructofuranosyl-4-chloro-4-deoxy-alpha-D-galactopyranoside.The artificial sweetener sucralose, which is sold under the name Splenda, is one of the up-and-coming "next generation" of high-intensity sugar substitutes. It is non-caloric and about 600 times sweeter than sucrose. As the rate of obesity increase, many people believe that they need to give up sweets in order for them to lose weight. There are artificial sweeteners that have low-calories to substitute for pure sugar. Many people believes that artificial sweetener could be a replacement for pure sugar because it contains no calories and carbohydrate, but one does not know the danger that are contained in sucralose. Behind every good product there may be something bad that many consumers do not know. People should not be mislead by the zero calorie and carbohydrate of the sweetener. Although pure sugar contain calories which can cause an increase in someone’s weight. Everyone need calories and sweets in their body. In Splenda, 99% of it contains pure sugar along with sucralose. According to the inventor of sucralose, about 15% of sucralose is absorbed in the body, but they are unsure whether how much of it stays in the body and what is digested out of the body. Sucralose, an artificial sweetener, has always been an alternative sweetener in the United States, and does or does not negatively affect in our body. Sucralose has a negative effect on our health. Sucralose has show signs of weight gain, disruption of sleeping patterns, increase in cancer, and etc. The body does not break down sucralose into calories to produce energy.
