When the word diversity is brought up in a mutual conversation or discussion the first thought that comes to mind is automatically race. Why do individuals rapidly assume that diversity is only concerning race. African American, Indian, Caucasoid, Nigerian is what we project diversity to be. According to Merriam-Webster they give us the definition of diversity by saying that it is a range of different things or a state of being diverse; variety. What is your definition of diversity and what does it mean to you? All things considered, there are many different types of diversity that we face in the world on a day to day bases. Also, it distinguishes people in society apart from one another because no individual is an exact duplicate. Multiplicity or Diversity in the workplace is generally regarded as a positive for companies that manage it effectively. However, a workforce that has significant differences in ethnicity, race, religion, gender and other individual traits can produce negative effects, especially if not well-managed.However, diversity has both positive and negative effects some that could unintentionally hurt other individuals. Positive aspects of diversity are that individuals are exposed to different things, provides people the opportunity to integrate with others, and also gain awareness that provides knowledge and understanding. Then, there are negative aspects of diversity such as being bias, unwilling to be educated, a lack of knowledge and understanding. For example, a homosexual man is confident within himself and doesn't see a problem with how he perceives himself into the world which is the positive side of diversity, however then there a negative side of diversity which there is a homophobic man that dislikes homosexuals because it goes against his religious beliefs.
