The law and its ever-changing characteristics intrigued me at a very early age. Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer. My goal of becoming a lawyer was a bit impractical due to my procrastination after high school graduation and because of my past financial situation. Not knowing what to do then, led me to join the Navy. The Navy afforded me the opportunity to go to school while working and it also allowed me to change jobs so that I can choose something closely related to my goal of becoming an attorney. That’s when I became a Paralegal, or “Legalman” as the Navy calls it.…

Since age eleven, the military was single handedly the only career field I could possibly fathom myself going into. Upon coming to and registering for Blackman High School, joining JROTC was a no brainer. Especially when I learned I could take this class in substitution for gym class. JROTC is more than a class; it is a program all its own and within it are kids with a future. I would like to believe that JROTC is greatly contributing to this and really guiding us as students in the right direction. Even if our sights are set on something other than the military after graduating high school, JROTC looks great on a college application. Not only in that does it make a positive impact on those, but in ourselves as individuals as well. JROTC teaches us confidence, integrity, respect, and leadership skills. This is my first year in JROTC and I am very new to it all, but I am eager to take away from it precisely that. I trust this program to teach me to be not only a leader, but also a good follower with teamwork skills and confidence in my peers. Being in the company of such great people, both students and staff, I feel I am on the right path to be taking action on learning so.…

My academic, professional and social skills have increased immensely since I have begun this program. Through this process I have gained a deeper understanding of what this chapter has to offer me. Primarily, a network of men with similar goals and similar backgrounds determined to develop each other. Learning is a lifelong process, and to join this network I would have access to unrivaled mentorship and experience. Furthermore, I would have the opportunity to give the same mentorship back to the newer members of the organization. Lastly,…

The Armed Forces is something my family is quite familiar with and has been an influential part of my life as a structure of leadership. My dad has told me a multitude of things he has experienced while in the Army and the opportunities given at hand when he was enlisted. I have also heard praises from many family members and family friends to the loved ones that have taken another step ahead by enrolling into college, and enhancing their leadership skills to become well renowned officers of the military. I will be taking this same road of success, but pushing it another level by applying for the NROTC, which will train my mind and body to guide others when I am commissioned into the Marine Corps.…

My initial interest in the naval service dates back to elementary school when we were assigned to discuss careers. Boasting proudly, I told everyone that I wanted to be just like my dad, a naval officer. Since then, my dream for becoming one has only intensified. My grandfather, a retired Navy pilot with 35 years of service, and my father have greatly influenced my desire to join the Navy. In addition to my family being involved in the Navy, I have done my own research on the armed services. Being a part of NJROTC at my high school, I began to learn more about the Navy’s core values of honor courage and commitment. Last Tuesday, 26 March 2013, was our Convening Ceremony, the Naval Command and Staff Course Class 74 (NCSC Cl-74) with RADM JAIME S BERNARDINO AFP as the keynote speaker. RADM BERNARDINO AFP who hails from Taytay, Rizal is the current Commander of the Naval Education and Training Command; who himself is a certified educator. He was a consistent honor student growing up and became a proud member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 81. In the Navy, he completed all career courses with distinction that include the Naval Officer’s Qualification Course in 1981, the Naval Command and Staff Course in 1993 and the Naval Command and General Staff Course in 2001. He talked about the importance of taking up the Naval Command and Staff Course (NCSC) and shared some tips on how to excel and succeed. I have to agree when he quoted that “Taking up the course is not just for compliance but for the students to learn and increase their knowledge”. He emphasized the importance of taking the course and becoming a more responsible naval officer.…
