Natural Beauty Pageants
On February 26th, 2016, I entered a pageant with the hopes and dreams of becoming Miss Naturalista USA. Being apart of an organization like no other, I expected such a high quality event with many sponsors, bloggers, and educators that represented the natural hair community. Before entering into the pageant the Lord showed me that I was crowned Miss California Naturalista USA. It was my first beauty pageant, and the first natural beauty pageant that I had came across. Many things seemed fine once I submitted everything, however the communication lacked. I still proceeded with the pageant with the hopes and dreams that everything will be okay. However, it was not. Prior to competition, challenges manifested which concluded suspicion. Practicing …show more content…
It became strange, because the DJ was sloppy, lazy, and was eating the food that was purchased for us contestants. The director was not around to notice any of the obnoxious behavior. After watching the DJ prepare I was curious to understand why there was no decorations. In addition, there was no indicated sign that the Miss California Naturalista Pageant was taking place. No sponsors showed up, and the room was bare. The director finally asked if we were ready 3 hours prior to show time. The contestants and I really had nothing to say, however just look at her in confusion. The contestants and I did not know what was going on, however we didn’t think much of it. The pageant director wanted us to practice again being that the DJ was present. The contestants and I practiced to the songs that she had chose. I felt like it was inconsiderate of her to take us away from our time to continue to prepare, after she arrived and was particularly late on her director …show more content…
My beautiful was for us contestants to showcase our talent. I was able to showcase my talent through a beautiful spoken word titled “Why It Got to Be Me”. I wore a tattered shirt, and ripped jeans to tell a story of how overcoming unfortunate events in life managed me to become a successful individual. In addition, the evening wear finale came. This following portion of the pageant I wore an African print mermaid style dress, and walked out individually to my bio and music. I walked out elegantly, and presented my poise to all of the audience. Once I finalized my walk, a pageant titleholder finished my bio. I waited to the side for the other contestants to end their walk, and arranged for the questionnaire portion of the pageant. As we are getting settled in our position we prepare to answer the questions from the judges. I felt like I responded to my questions eloquently. My desired question that I was asked was, “If you were a fruit, what fruit would you be”? I answered a pomegranate. As the night proceeded the judges deliberated and came to a final decision. I was crowned Miss California Naturalista. I received a crown and flowers and proceeded to carry the

It is important to point out that English settlers were a definite majority of those in North America during the entire eighteenth century. However, the proportion declined from about twenty to one in 1700 to only about three to one by 1775. So a good essay should point out that the significance of non-English groups was increasing. The next task is to select three groups from the list and describe the influence of each. Of the non-English settlers, the largest group consisted of Africans, most of whom were enslaved and forced to immigrate. The…

The author uses the superiority theory to get her point across. There many times when they are trying to find things to survive most of the girls were so worried about the pageant look didn't care about necessities they needed to live. One of the girls had a tray in her forehead and because they couldn’t take it out they advised her to get bangs so she could still look good for the pageant. “‘You know what would be cute on you?’ Petra said... ‘Bangs. So 1960’s chic. You’d hardly notice the, um, the...addition.’” For comic elements author uses comic situations, hyperbole and irony. For example when Tiara find there going to be there for a while with not much food she says “Ohmigosh. No food at all...I am going to be super skinny for pageant time.”. Also there was many times and they compared what they were dealing with to happens in beauty pageants. This story is high comedy. I know this because one specific topic they talk about is racism. When Nicole comes they assume she is from the village even after she told…

With two months left I had yet to choose who I wanted to participate in my court of honor. I decided to go with twelve of my closest friends, 6 girls and 6 guys. A black tux with a coral tie was worn by the guys expect my main escort; he wore a white tux with a coral tie to stand out alongside with me. For the girls, they wore a formal, coral, long dress.…

We were able to attend this gala afterwards because we had VIP tickets, and I felt so overwhelmed by being surrounded by so much musical talent and affluence. I can’t even begin to imagine how much those tickets cost everyone who attended. But this soloist was there, and with absolutely no fear in my body, I ran up to her to tell her how beautiful she looked and sounded out there. I’m also positive that I said I wanted to be like her when I grew up, embarrassingly enough. She just laughed and said thank you and that was that, but that night gave me the determination to work so hard so that I, too, could make my Carnegie Hall debut one night.…

I arrived to a church crowded with friends and family. So many people had gone to St. John’s Cathedral to witness the simple, yet elegant, tradition. There were also relatives from Mexico and Puerto Rico who took the long tiring trip to attend. I was honored to see so many people there on my special day. My court of honor led the way into the church. When it was my turn to walk down the aisle, soft music was played by the organist. I felt like a princess walking in my big, beautiful ball gown. My gown was similar to a wedding dress except it was a pastel pink. When the ceremony started it was nerve racking. I was thinking about my hair and people staring at me from behind, and hoping my tiara or…
