These stories gave much insight on the values and beliefs of Native Americans. They deeply valued nature and these tales, included the creation of it. It showed the making of…
This source of information about 9/11 attacks is on the conspiracy theory side of the story which holds a lot of questionable facts that make common sense seem like it’s very true. This video comes down to the fact that maybe our government is hiding the real truth behind this with cover-ups and scams to physiologically attack the American people to gain support for a war.…
A popular stereotype given to Native Americans is they are all savages and hunt animals in a very animalist way. This is false when it comes to the Pima tribe, or as they call themselves Akimel O’odham meaning “river people”(“Akimel O’odham (Pima)”). The Pima tribe is known for farming and being very peaceful people. They live in the Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico area on two reservations called Gila River and Salt River. This area in which they Pima people live is also the Sonoran Desert. Even though the culture of the Pima people are slowing dying out it is one that will live forever in history (“History and Culture”). The reason they will be remembered is because of their history, housing and clothing, religion, and agriculture.…
Native Americans have always received the short end of the stick in history, when the colonialist came to what is now known as America, the people of the land where shown in a different light. They became the stories of terror and fear for the colonist to be afraid of, however this was not done in one night know this spans over a time of great explores and those who became American literalness, those who detailed history in documents and trades. Using works from John smith and William Bradford in their tales and encounters with Indians, the light and representation of the natives might become clear. Both authors had completely different experiences during their times in the new-found land.…
The video we watched was very eye opening. The part of the video that affected me most was the time between the…
In view of the Choctaw tribe, their lots of things today's generation does not know that went about on/inside their reservation. There are things like their geographic location, clothing, historical impact, housing and reputation that no one could have never thought about that went on at reservations in America.…
Before visiting the Anishinabek exhibit I studied some books that specifically related to the Indian Tribes at hand. In my readings I learned about some of their history, tradition, and culture.…
Spirits for Sale is a moving film where the protagonist of the documentary, Annika Banfield, makes trip to the United States to find the rightful owner of the feather that was given to her when a Native American visited her in Sweden. Her mission to find the owner took her through many Native American communities from New Mexico to Texas, to South Dakota, which led her to understand in depth about how they were both proud and sad in preserving the Native American Culture. Spirits for Sale isn’t just a film about Native American culture, rather, it aims to tell the world the restoration and the constant fight Native Americans have to protect their culture. Anna Banfield “[s]incerely hope[s] that film can be used as tool to inform about traditional…
The Trudell Documentary taught me a lot about Native American’s that I didn’t know. Growing up, in history class, one of my teachers made a point to state that what America did to the Native American’s was wrong. We then learned all about how we took their land and made them change their lives. Although it is important to know the historical backgrounds to these events, we never really talked much about how the Government was treating Native Americans now.…
Native Americans were the first people to have arrived in America, and to have built an establishment in America. Many people have a stereotype on how they lived and still live currently, and many Native Americans don’t consent to that at all. The way many people believe that the Native Americans lived a nomadic type of lifestyle, such as hunting large animals for food, using animal parts to create clothing, and many other actions. This article that the author has wrote is very convincing on how a Native American feels about how people are stereotyping him and his type of people. It gives a perspective from a Native American’s point of view of what they deal with on a daily basis, and throughout their entire life. The main reason that is convincing…

One take-away from Native American Perspectives that helped me understand Native American history more was the idea of regimes of truth from French philosopher Michel Foucault. This idea was vital in understanding Native American and settler colonial relations. Foucault said, “Truth is a thing of this world: it is produced only by a virtue of multiple forms of constraint. And it induces regular effects of power. Each society has its regime of truth, its “general politics” of truth: that is, the types of discourse which it accepts and makes function as true; the mechanisms and instances which enable one to distinguish true and false statements, the means by which each is sanctioned; the techniques and procedures accorded value in the acquisition…
The discovery that Native Americans' culture is not static, is a relatively new one. With the aid of modern archeology, we now know that the Natives were very complex and were ever changing. The evidence we have now is still basic, but we can still learn a lot from it. Because of the lack of evidence, a lot of controversy is attributed to Native Americans. Some people believe that Natives were perfect beings, living in harmony with nature and others believe that they were savages due to human sacrifices, wars, etc. Natives are also often compared to Europeans who like them, engaged in warfare as well. One large difference is that Europeans had more capability to cause destruction compared to the Natives, due to their technology and organization…
Thesis: Modern Native American traditions reflect the history of struggle, strife and triumph they experienced in history.…
There are 196 countries in the world, and each country has anywhere from 10 to 20 different cultures. Native Americans are just one of the many different cultures that are in this world. Native Americans are different than other cultures, they have their own beliefs, perception of time, the way they socialize, their diets, traditions, the way they communicate, heritage and even concerns that are they deal with in today’s…
