I spent the end of May and beginning of June applying for any activity job or volunteer opportunity that held my interest. I spent hours preparing for interviews, writing lengthy letters and internally panicking at every ring of the phone. in June I started my first job at the Hebron Carnival, and I could not have been more excited. I promised myself that I would work my hardest to make the carnival a better place than when I arrived. I also was accepted by the volunteer program at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and began work there every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that was the most educational job I have ever had the pleasure of working at.Also in June I applied to work at Azar Eye Institute and received a position there. I worked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 5:30. even after balancing my workload I was informed that I got a job volunteering at the library; which I did Monday and Thursday afternoons, and I also got a job working with children and animals at the Pemberton nature camp. Five jobs for a 15-year-old without a license sounds overwhelming, and it was. However, I loved every minute of it. I liked being part of the team, I liked being relied on by my fellow staff members, and most of all I liked having a

This award means a lot to me and I have set high goals all school year ever since hearing about it. Every day I come to school and set high goals for myself whether it’s to earn all A’s, learn something new, or get an award. I feel education is very important and so far all this school year I only have been absent once and I’ve never been late. However, I don’t think all the credit should go to me, if it weren't for my parents I wouldn’t have gotten myself to where I am today. Their belief in me to achieve greatness inspires me. Throughout my life, they also helped answer all my questions, and still do. All though it’s not just my parents who deserve the credit the amazing teachers who have taught me throughout my entire life deserve some credit too, without their amazing teaching skills I wouldn’t be earning this award today.…

Bryant McGill once said, "Whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest chance at growth". No matter the situation, people usually will either follow or lead. As a freshman in high school, I was the follower, never fully realizing my potential of being the leader. Finding myself would take time, and a lot of encouraging along the way. Going into my freshman year, my participation in class government was mostly a popularity contest. Which meant not so much about leading a particular class or group of people. I didn't find myself thinking about running for any major ASB (Associated Student Body) position. A larger, more pronounced position in ASB would mean being uncomfortable in more situations and also having to grow into true leadership.…

Joining the honor society would help me get acquainted with more teachers who would help me get accepted and admitted into the right college and the right future. This honor society could prepare me for the upcoming future in that it could teach me to become a more punctual and successful person in society. I believe I could be an adamant member because I challenge myself constantly, strive towards new goals, and have maintained near academic perfection since kindergarten. When I was younger I participated in a local spelling and I got all the way to the top; unfortunately, I failed to win because I misspelled the word “holiday.” From that day forward I committed that word to memory so that I would never make such a foolish mistake again. I learned that day that I should not strive for total perfection but for my very best and that is what I can offer if chosen to be a fellow member. I was chosen as a candidate to display the academic prestige but I believe I can offer so much more like exemplary efforts of leadership,…

Looking at that ragged-edged piece of paper on the desk made my heart skip a beat and it moved me into a state of confusion. The palpitations in my chest pained me and the pit of my stomach began to knot. Reading these hurtful messages through the eyes of a little girl rendered a heartbreaking experience. “Sarah is ugly,” “Julie has big teeth,” and “Angelique is black.” I am Angelique, and to them, my black face represented my entire essence. For the first time in my life, I felt deflated and betrayed by my skin color. The girls who wrote the note endured expulsion and embarrassment from being sent home. Unfortunately, I carried the heavy burden long after those girls departed.…

I also set a checklist for the day, giving me an outline of what I need to do. I set reminders on my phone, write down notes, or record anything of interest in my sketchbook. I always try to stay on top of everything, so that I never suffocate beneath them.…
