These experiences helped me cope with my biggest tragedy, my father's death, a serious influential adversity for me to undergo. My dad is one of the closest and most important person in my life, he means the world to me. This experience taught me to be strong and brave, to analyze things with a positive attitude and open mindset and do everything with excellence. Our family, the Heng's, was complete until tragedy struck when my father passed last year. Since our father by left this world, and our mother is unemployed (widow, residing in Asia, and doesn’t speak English), I will be the head of the household, responsible for our family’s health and overall well being. Working hard to keep it healthy, growing, and prosperous. I am the oldest in my family, so I am also a role model to my siblings, providing an example for them to follow. To learn about family, respect, character, values/beliefs, confidence, culture, happiness, life lessons (good traits, bad traits, etc), education, advice/guidance, etc. My family depends on me, so I must serve and lead them well in order to live a good life, do things we never done and obtain things we never owned. My family, my life are my everything, my everlasting journey. This is a huge reward and responsibility, filled with many value, significance/tasks, sacrifices, and memories

Those being, having the opportunity to play varsity shortstop in high school, and having good enough grades to be nominated for, and to be admitted into, the National Honor Society. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…

A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

The four pillars of the National Honor Society; scholarship, leadership, character, and service are the four qualities of a well-rounded individual. They have not only embodied who I strive to be, but have helped me achieve success and impact throughout my local community and my time as a national honor society member. Scholarship has helped me define not only who I am as a student, but has helped me prepare for my future. Without my drive to maintain my academics and pursue knowledge, I would not have discovered my love and passion for teaching. This newly discovered passion has helped me narrow down my future career, special education. Service, has helped me develop one of my individual characteristics, as I now understand the importance…

As quite the introvert, I never would have imagined myself as the secretary of such a renowned organization: the National Honor Society. However, I had decided to take on the challenge of running for board, requiring me to give a speech to our 500+ NHS members. My strengths did not lie in public speaking or persuasion like the other candidates. Instead, my speech involved me singing Mulan’s “Be a Man,” using ingenuity and humor to win over opinions. I believe that pushing yourself into an unfamiliar situation is the best way to learn and grow, as this approach demands problem solving and innovative thinking. NHS has pushed me to be more outgoing and active in the community by giving me the privilege of leadership, and I would definitely serve…

Many events have happened through the years which have proved to me how important my family is to me. An event which helped me realize this was the death of my grandpa who lived in Ukraine where my family is originally from. The amount of times I had seen the man I could count on my fingers. This had taught me a very valuable lesson, to be as close with my elders as I can because they aren’t getting any younger. This opened up my eyes to a vast amount of information coming from those who had seen it all. I accredit much of my success to my family members who have provided much inspiration. The event which had influenced me the most had to be almost losing my only blood brother. He is my best friend and I am thankful every day that he is alive.…

After attending Tarrant county college, I decided to join the Cornerstone Honors program. Over the course of a year I was exposed to the idea of being able to formulate my own ideas through rigorous course work centered, on critical thinking and analytical skills. Following the completion of the program, I was finally confident in myself as an overall person. Over the course of my first year, the Honors Texas government course had created an atmosphere where my peers and I were able to express ourselves in a positive setting and learn from each other’s perspectives. In addition, I learned to have an informed opinion about my own beliefs. As a result, I gained the confidence to run for an officer position for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.…

When it came time for the Phi theta Kappa honor society to elect new officers, I could not wait for my chance to run. Since I had served as an editor and photographer for my high school yearbook staff, I was confident in my abilities to serve as historian. My duties included taking pictures at every chapter event, updating social media pages, and contributing to any other endeavor my chapter proceeded with. I made sure to capture the social aspects of being a part of the Phi Theta at every event that took place. I was present at every ceremony, membership drive, conference and convention my chapter attended. I also worked very closely with faculty advisers to every week through officer, and general meetings to make sure that our chapter’s…
