Would you as a mother, or father want to get a shocking call about your son/daughter dead or in the hospital from having a car accident for being drunk while driving? Or because somebody was drunk while driving and they crashed into your son/or daughter and now shes in the hospital paralyzed? Well this is why MADD was incorporated on September 5, 1980 to help prevent drunk driving, and help stop underage drunk drivers or under aged drugged drivers, also to help and make families safer .MADD Mothers Against Drunk Driving was founded by Candice Lightner in 1980 after her 13 year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver named Clarence Busch.
On May 3, 1980, Candy Lightner's 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was walking in her residential neighborhood in Fair Oaks, California, on her way to a church carnival when she was struck from behind by a drunken driver who briefly passed out, then came to and drove off after having killed the young girl. Cari's body had been thrown 125 feet and was so badly mutilated that her organs could not be donated.( by David J. Hanson, Ph.D.) By 1999,the organization became a greater success when people started to realize the great danger and importance of drunk driving people statrfted to take action MADD had succeeded by then for there purpose was to to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. The goal of MADD was to reduce drunk driving traffic fatalities and the organization has been highly effective in raising public disapproval of drunk driving. The proportion of traffic fatalities that are alcohol-related has dropped . MADD’s success changed it into a huge, $46 million organization, In March 2004, MADD started making the rule of not letting either parent be drinking and driving with children underaged in the vehicle..if this rule was to be broken , penalties such as license suspension, jail, or even the termination of parental rights could happen.MADD is a grassroot
