Narrative Writing: 900 words She read the text message on her phone. She paused, gasped and took a very deep breath. “Why is this happening to me?!” she screamed as tears ran down her soft pale face. She got out of her old beat up car and ran to her room, slamming every door in her path. As she laid in her bed, sobbing into her feather pillow, she wondered if this was the time for her to die. She has been dreading this day for over two years now, and finally it is here. Every day she woke up terrified that that day would be the God awful day her worst night mare came true. But she doesn’t have to wonder if that day would be it, because today is the day. Today is the day her life changes before her eyes. There’s a knock on her bedroom door. “Sierra honey, are you alright?” her mother said, sounding worried. “Yeah, I’m fine,” Sierra says as she wipes away the tears from her cheeks, “just tired.” “Okay, well dinner will be ready soon. Do you want me to fix you up a plate?” her mother asked anxiously. “I’m not hungry” “Okay, I’ll put the left overs in the fridge if you want some later,” says her mother sounding concerned. “Okay mom” she says hoping her mom would go back down stairs and leave her alone so she could sneak off into the bathroom without being caught by her mom so she doesn’t have to explain why her face is all puffy and red like she has just been crying for 3 hours, even though she had been. She hurries off to the bathroom and closes the door very quietly so no one can hear her, not even her dog. She opens her drawer and searches for the box of razor blades she has hidden in the back. Once she finds them, she opens the box and takes out one of the four razor blades that the little black box contained. She held the razor up to her pale white wrist and pushes down hard and starts to cut herself down the arm. She cries harder and harder as she waits for the blood to start seeping out of her poor fragile skin. All of a sudden there’s and unexpected person knocking on her bathroom door. “Sierra, it’s me. Are you alright?’ It was her boyfriend Mike. “I’m fine! Leave me alone!” she yelled, bawling into the towel she had in her mouth to silent the screams from the pain of the razor. “No! I’m not going to leave you. You never texted me back and I’ve been worried about you for hours now. I’m not leaving you! I love you too much to just leave. I’m worried about you Sierra. Please open this door!” Mike yelled back to Sierra sounding more concerned than ever. Weak from the amount of blood she has lost, Sierra unlocks the bathroom door. Mike opens the door and gasps. Shocked by what he is seeing, he yells down stairs to call for help. The paramedics rushed into the house and up the stairs to Sierras bathroom once they got there. Sierras mom, confused, shocked and extremely upset by what is happening right in front of her eyes, tries to comfort Sierra, but mostly Sierras little sister, Kristie. Mike takes Kristie and Sierras mom goes with Sierra in the ambulance to the hospital, while Mike rushes with Kristie following the ambulance. Sierra continues to get weaker and weaker on the way to the hospital. Her heart stops. Her mom starts to freak out. “You need to help my baby! She’s too young to die!” screams her mom in a horrific tone. The paramedic gets Sierra back to life, but she isn’t going to last much longer. She’ll be lucky if she makes it to the hospital. Sierras mom cries even harder, but relieved that her daughter is back to life. The ambulance pulls into the hospital Emergency Room entrance and rushes Sierra inside. Mike and Kristie rush in and meet up with Sierras mom. Every one of them is crying. Sierras mother goes and sits in the waiting room with Kristie, while Mike anxiously waits outside of Sierras hospital room, hoping for good news. 30 minutes have gone by and not one person has left Sierras hospital room yet. Mike and Sierras mom are becoming more and more concerned every minute that passes. Mike finally goes and sits in silence with Sierras mom and Kristie. Another 10 minutes have passed and finally the doctor comes out of the room with an expression on his face that screams sadness. He walks over to Mike and Sierras mom as they stand hoping for good news, but knowing by the look on his face, it isn’t anything but the obvious. “I’m sorry to inform you all, but we couldn’t save Sierra. Her cuts were too extensive and she had already lost over half of her blood before she got here. I’m really sorry for your loss. I tried everything I could to save her.” Sierras mom goes into and depression and Mike, sobbing, takes out Sierras phone hoping it would have something that would help explain why she would kill herself. He read the text message on her phone. He paused, became extremely furious and ran off to his car and sped away.

Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…

It was the year 1645 and we’ve been on the plantation for 8 ½ months now. Our family has been here for as long as I can remember, working the cotton fields. We were brought here from a small country off the coast of Africa, the country of Uganda. I will never forget that fateful day. As my mother and I were walking through the forest to gather wood and the proper materials for us to eat, we were bombarded by the white men, they came in different directions threating to shoot at us if we didn’t cooperate, at this time we knew that the rumors we heard all around the village were true. As if having guns pointed to our heads wasn’t enough pain we were beaten, tied, and thrown into the bottom of a ship without food and water for what seemed like days. As I saw the look on mothers face I realized that the days ahead for the rest of our lives were going to be hell for now on……..…

If you choose to write a narrative, it should be a story in which either you or someone you know well was actually involved. You should avoid stories that simply recount accidents. What I mean is this: a good story needs to have the element of choice in it. If you describe an accident, you need to show that decisions led up to it. This story should be about people, about the decisions they make and the consequences that follow.…

Suddenly, I woke to the sound of pain and stress. In the dimmed hotel room, my mother was laid roughly on the bed motioning that she didn’t feel well. We had traveled the far and exciting journey to Las Vegas to witness my mom finish a half marathon. It was an event that she had spent minutes, hours, days, and months training for. I couldn’t believe that after all of the work my mom had done in the past year, she wouldn’t be able to compete on the big day. I was wrong though when my mom sat up, tidied her tangled hair and nonchalantly said, “let’s do this”.…

I am an average 16 year who just can’t wait to grow up and face the real world and not have to worry about any rules or restrictions. On January 12th, 1996, my parents named me Asmaa, so I have to stick with that name for the rest of my life. Personally, I like the name because it’s the name of a very great person; more of a hero in Islam. Names in my family go with a pattern; but this only goes for girls. The pattern is the double ‘A’ at the end of the name. Shaymaa is the leader of the tribe yet she doesn’t control any of us. Next in line are me and my twin sister Alyaa. We are the decision makers in the household, everyone takes our opinion before doing anything or taking any steps .I would like to mention that I am the older twin; but that doesn’t really help me in anyway because she is treated as the ‘wiser one’. I am known as the smiley easy going twin and Alyaa is known as the serious harsher twin. There are 5 years between Omar and me, which makes me the mature older sister that he could come to for advice. Esraa is the little seven year old diva of the house. She likes to imitate models and celebrities and act like she rules the planet. The sixth child is five year old Tarek who just entered grade one this September. He believes that the world can’t survive without superheroes. Last but certainly not least is my life and my smile, the little flower of the house; Alaa. She is a year and 3 months old. In my mind; she completes the package very well. We kids call ourselves The Power of Seven. We’re 5 girls against 2 guys. Fortunately for us girls, we gang up against the guys and we always get what we want. The girls rule the house because they know how to fight for what they want, they know how to put up a good argument, and plus they’re the majority. Speaking of majority, I am two years away from being an official adult and getting the right to vote; a year and 4 months and day to be exact. I really want…

It was a day like every other in the busy city of Seattle. There were rain clouds above that made it gloomy. It looked like the perfect scene for a horror movie. Annabel "Red" Jackson was sitting in her room on this day listening to Stressed out by Twenty one pilots. The reason they call her "Red" is because she always has a red hoodie with a small heart right above her heart that she got from her grandmother on. No matter what the day is like. It could be one hundred degrees out and she would still have that red hoodie on. "Red?" Called her mother. "What mom?" She replied. "Your grandmother is sick and I need you to take her some soup to help her feel better." Said her mother. "It is raining out though. I don't want to get wet." Red replied to her mother.…

Allie turned her head around to face him and nodded her head in response. There was no time to argue and she knew she looked like shit, so she made her way up the stairs to her bathroom to wash her face. When she entered her bathroom, she stared at her own reflection. Her bronze hair was knotted and disarrayed. The left side of her face was covered in dried blood and dirt. She sighed as she tied her hair up in a messy bun before she washed her face. She ignored the stinging sensation on her temple as she brushed her hand across the wound with the warm water. When she was…

Already it had marked a year since the devastating news had been revealed to her. On this particular day, Janee had been very sick and was lying in bed trying to sleep, as this was her only means of comfort. As she lied there, feeling miserable, she thought to herself that she should call the hospice to see how her mother was doing; Janee had called everyday to ask the nurses how she was doing. Every time Janee called to check on her mother, she always received the same report, they always made it sound as if she was doing okay or better than the day before. To bring the family together, Janee had planned for the family to drive down and visit her mother that Friday, and celebrate her daughter’s birthday all in conjunction. Continuing to lay in bed, consumed by all of her thoughts, Janee’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest, in fear, as she heard her mother scream her name in the most unpleasant manner.
