Jeremy Knutzen, my 6th grade teacher, is the Ames Middle School Athletic Director. He was there to talk about fixing the white gravel track that students use by adding lines. Adding lines would help the track athletes by distinguishing their running boundaries, said Mr. Knutzen. The area by the track and football field at Ames Middle School seriously needs a shelter that has a restroom and water, said Mr. Knutzen. This area is a ways away from the school and some students cannot wait for the teachers to unlock the door to use the restrooms and water, especially after…

I have chosen Centerville ISD as the school to complete my Field Experience 1 for this semester. Centerville Elementary has a different setup than the average school. Because of the low population, 1st-3rd grade classes are located in one building. Each class rotates throughout the day to three different teachers. Each teacher teaches two subjects. My mentor teacher, Mrs. Childress, teaches reading in the morning and science in the afternoon. The three teachers create a collaborative environment for the students. The small building has 4 classrooms, 1 is used as a computer lab/library for all the classes.…

The team will meet at least twice weekly and provide feedback on the progress via email to Ms. Velma Johnson. The objective for the team is to meet with their grade level teaching partners to bring their concerns to the meetings. Ultimately, these members will review and discuss which concerns are valid and relate to the new initiative. Personal feelings are set aside to achieve whatever is necessary to meet the needs of the students. As educators, one must remember the focus is on what will work best for the students’ success. There are times when stepping out of one’s comfort zone (the norm) is necessary.…

Taylor Challenge provides the Gunnison eighth graders, with experiential learning in an outdoor classroom. The Taylor Challenge is an opportunity for the students to build personal growth and experience team building skills through activities such as, rock climbing, rafting, archery, ropes course and gaga ball. Professionally, my peers and I led the students in initiatives, as leaders, teachers, and role models they can look up to. On day one, their teachers assigned one advisory to each group of Western students to direct different initiatives. Day two we had all ninety-five of them to ourselves at one time. My participation in Taylor Challenge enhanced my professional leadership skills and gave me an opportunity to interact with older students. The coordinators positively blended the idea of the environment and learning. Simultaneously,…

I have learned a lot about the teaching profession this semester. My dream has always been to become an Elementary teacher. I had the opportunity to observe many classrooms, especially at the Elementary grade levels. Through field experience, I was able to imagine my own classroom and teaching methods. I observed both student-based classrooms and teacher-based classrooms. I even had the opportunity to learn about teaching special education classes, which I never considered teaching until now. This field experience has made me question the level that I want to teach, the methods of instruction I should choose, and the content area on which I should focus.…
