Narrative Essay – Where I found love

As a little girl when I imagined finding my true love, I thought I would marry my high school sweetheart. At one point in my life it seemed as though I would never find that “one” person. On August 18th 2005, I was on date with Antonio and we were in California on Coronado Island, San Diego. I thought this was just another date.
I had been dating Antonio for two months when he asked me to go away with him in a few months to meet some of his family in California. I told him yes right away, but inside I was not sure if this was a mistake. As time went on and our relationship grew, I began to feel going away was not going to be a mistake at all. We had been dating for about five months when we left for our first trip together to California. One day Antonio surprised me with a date on one of his favorite beach locations. I was so excited to see this special beach that Antonio had told me all about. Antonio and I both love the beach, so I couldn’t have been happier to go.
The day began like any other day. We had breakfast at the house then headed out to the beach. The drive was about an hour from his family’s house. It was a gorgeous day outside, sunny, not humid –like NY and not a cloud in the sky. On our way to the beach we could see the San Diego Skyline; it was really beautiful. We unpacked the car and headed to the beach. The sand was so nice and warm because of the shining sun and it felt so nice under my feet. We placed the blanket down in front of the chairs and laid on it, soaking up the sun. Antonio got up because he was thirsty and asked if I wanted a drink. He came back with water for me and a cocktail for himself. I thought it was a little weird that he was drinking so early in the morning; especially considering he didn’t really drink that much. We were relaxing and enjoying the sun, Antonio had finished his drink and had

It was nearly sunset and I was relaxing along the soothing beach in Capitola, California. My brother and sister were assembling sand and shells to make a colossal sand city while my parents were in two chairs chatting. As I was ambling down the oceanfront my feet would feel the chilly waves and I could sense the gentle wind blowing my way. I was reminiscing about the exciting activities previously that day, including swimming through the waves, body surfing, and passing around a volleyball with my brother.…

The short story How I Met My Husband, by Alice Munro, is an excellent example of realistic writing. She uses ordinary and worldly events, actual locations, and a very ironic tone in the story. Alice Munro also uses everyday people for her protagonists, who encounter normal events and emotions. In the story How I Met My Husband, Edie shows the growth from someone who is very naïve to someone who is more realistic.…

Joe uses a range of symbols in this chapter; one of the symbols used is colour. Colour is used to give the reader a clue of what will happen soon. This is shown when Joe says, ‘in memory, all the food they brought us first was red,’ the use of a colour to remember a part of Joe’s memory gives the reader the impression that the colour symbolises a feeling or emotion that Joe may have felt. ‘Red’ in this case could represent danger, blood, anger, threat or jeopardy, all words that are connected to the event that occurs in this chapter. A similar symbol appears on page 172 where Colin Tapp had just been shot. There is an emphasis on colour of his shirt when Joe describes the gun shot, ‘the silenced bullet struck through his white shirt at his shoulder,’ the use of the description about the bullet and where it hit Tapp helps put emphasis on the colour and how it can relate to red. White can be related to innocence, peace and the idea of being harmless or pure, therefore when Tapp is shot, the innocence is lost. This can relate to red because of Tapp’s blood and that fact that the shooting involves danger and threat. Also the men that shot Tapp were wearing black which contributes to the idea that colour plays a large part in this chapter. The colour black is significant as it could mean that they men were dark, powerful and it can be related to death and evil in contrast to white.…

It was a warm sunny day, like the ones you would expect in a summer camp; laughter was the melody that filled the air. Everybody was cheerful and enthusiastic, well everybody except one of our counselors. He was very worried, because his sister had been extremely sick, and nobody had been able to heal her. Everybody in my group had told him how sorry we felt for her, but really nobody connected with his situation, so we were not thinking about it. Instead we were immerging our souls into the contentment that was surrounding us. That day while we were acting, everybody was relaxed, focused and happy on what we were doing. We were living in our own little summer bubble. We decided to take a small break, in between the laughs I remember a friend saying “Isn’t it surprisingly amazing how beautiful life can be?”. That was the last sentence said before a cell phone rang and changed the course of the day.…

We had it planned; college, careers, lifestyles, and yes, love. Love, the one dream we did not share. I remember the conversation as we strolled along our normal path. He would love me completely and together we would ride off into the…

Across from me was a handsome, dark haired man, broad-shouldered holding a Les Paul classic custom guitar playing melodious songs while I lay on a nice big red beach chair. In my hand was a big glass of iced tea shimmering in the bright sun as I took a sip it cooled the inside of my throat causing me to keep my cool temperature in the hot summer. It was the perfect day to be out, with the sun casting just the right amount of shine to give me that perfect sun-kissed tan. I was lying on a beautiful red chair with my legs sprung up in a gorgeous white cotton maxi dress. As, I got up and started to walk towards the ocean I could hear the waves up ahead. I took my shoes off and set foot on the hot, white sand. I could feel the sand going through in between my toes from every step I took. As I stroll along the edge of the beach I feel free of worries and stress, I am just enjoying the holidays, no school, or work just free time. In the middle of the ocean were many surfers in yellow shorts riding in the various color surfboards. They were going so fast doing so many tricks…

I believe in love. I believe that love is painful. Love is not when your “lover” walks by and you feel butterflies in your stomach. That is not love, love is the wrenching pain in your heart. The pain you fear will kill you. The unbearable pain, day and night, hour after hour, minute after minute, second after second, until it is done. gone. That is love. Not hugs and kisses, not love songs or love poems. Love is the devil, mean,, cold hearted. That is love.…

With all the attention on grades and extracurricular activities, many start to dislike the educational process, which leads to an absolute distaste with being involved in anything outside of school. Not to mention, the challenges that the growing adolescent boy faces, both socially and internally as he grows, is easier said than done. As a student who places great emphasis on growth in all aspects of life, I know I could have, and still can, crumble. However, my first love saves me. She always makes me feel calm when the ship I know as school hits rough waters or seems like it is going down. She takes me to a different place when unpleasant thoughts consume my mind. She lets me crash into sweaty bodies, perform for squealing crowds, and lets my intense focus I have crafted for academia be channeled into making…

Later that morning, in the sunlit dining hall, breakfast was being severed. My group sat at the table we sat at the night before. As I started to eat my tater-tots , the events from yesterday filled my mind. My group went snorkeling, both day and night, I could still feel the cold water soak my wetsuit. I remembered that Mr. Lacey, our principal, announced that the school would be leaving today because of a storm. I was disappointed because I payed for three days instead of two,but at least I was having fun.…

As you know, I am off to explore a land far away land (about six hours away, seven with traffic). no matter how far it may seem (315 miles) there is no distance that can fault our love. Yes, it will be hard but this is just one of the many challenges that we have faced and one of many to come. I can honestly say that I love you with all of my heart. Might I dare go as far as calling you the love of my life. That may seem extreme but I feel as if it is only natural for me to say this. As our one year comes up it is almost hard to believe that we have been together for so long I mean it’s been a year! Yet it feels like so much longer! It’s as if you know everything about me. I know you don’t but over this year we have just fit so well…
